tint is a lot harder to apply than what most people would think, i'd let a professional do it.
i did my tint, not bad for the first time, and dirty garage.
make shure the size of the tint is perfict, that was my problem (screwed up on cuting)
Ya, I'm getting a guy at work to do it. He tinted for a while at another shop. But as for the pre-cut stuff, does anyone know if it actually fits?
the stuff i have seen usually fits, often it is laser cut. but some of it is cut so precise that you have no room for error. meaning if you make the edge too tight to one side of the window you can see the gap on the other, or ir you put it on and try to roll the edge when you put the window up you see a little light at the bottom of the glass. i've only seen two cars done with precut though.
if you have a good glass guy, it doesn't really save much effort with precut...
regarding tinting windows i've heard some shops will use a clear nail polish on the edge all the way around to prevent it peeling up. has anyone heard this, or is it fiction?
Tinted professionally for many years. The clear nail polish is an old trick to fix peeling corners or bad adhesion on an edge. There shouldn't be any need to put it on an edge if it is a quality film that is properly installed.Quote:

I never tinted actually, but I heard spraying water onto the window before applying the film makes the process easier. But it takes a couple days for the wet glue on the film to set. Eveyone know of that trick? Or is that just part of the standard procedure?
Its not a trick. For most films you need some sort of solution(but water and a low level soap works well).Quote:

I tinted the windows on my 07 aveo hatch. The only true difficult part was the rear window. It reallly requires a lot of patience and I mean A LOT especially if you are new to it. I tinted a few cars now so I'm gettin pretty good at it, but it will take a lot more to do it expertly obviously. My hatch looks amazing with the tint job. Since my car was the first car I ever tinted, it took me about 3 hours on the rear window, and 15 mins for the small side ones and about 45 mins for each of the rear passenger. I didn't tint the front windows because I don't need the harrassment from the cops.
Make sure you have several very very sharp razor blades, the sharper they are the easier it is to cut and the cleaner the cuts will be.
Water with a minimal amount of clear soap helps if you have clear soap, I used just water on most of it. I added some soap for the rear window just because I knew it would make my life easier.
All I have to say is the rear windows on the aveos are so curved it will drive you crazy, you will need to cut several horizontal strips and match them up, overlapping 1/16in. I cut mine to fit the heat defrosters so my cuts are just about invisible without overlapping, that's the part that takes the most patience if you want it to look really good. I definately suggest using the Gila Ultra Shield tint, which is the highest quality of tint Gila sells. It's pretty good stuff.
Any questions please feel free to message me, I'll help any way I can.
Yeah, soapy water works the best, I don't claim to be good but I've done quite a few tint jobs that are satisfactory. I'm just gonna have my aveo done proffessionally though, I found a shop here that will do all the back ones 5% and the front ones 20% w/ a 5% brow on the windshield for 250. Heres 2 cars I did my self, my red s10 and my buddies blazer.

make sure it's good quality metalic tint, not dyed.
+1 If it is not metalic it will not keep any heat from the sun out of your car. Also do not clean with amonia-based products such as windex. I use Invisible Glass because it says "Tint Safe" on the front of the can. If you clean with windex it will start to eat away the tint and turn it purple.Quote:
