Just take the muffler out, 2 nuts to unscrew and 3 hangers to remove...give 'em a good yank...should do it.

I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

Finally got my flange made up and pipe welded with some hangers. Sounds awesome. You can't really hear it in the car, but outside it sounds really nice. On the plus side, it doesn't sound like those annoying fart cans you see everywhere.

Props to Nemasys, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have done this...I'd prolly have a cherry bomb or something under there.

Yeah the stock system sounds pretty sweet with just removing the rear muffler and straight pipe it with a tip, no aftermarket muffler needed here

If I can get my hands on some recording device, I'll post a sound clip....as for now, I need to find a tip that fits the 1 3/4 pipe I got made up.

Can someone tell me what I do next after I take the muffler out? Like what pipe, or tip, or braces?

I haven't actually taken out my muffler yet but I did take a look at it, and there's the 2 bolts holding the muffler in, then the braces holding in in, but then there's the bolts holding the pipes together.

Do you have to do some welding? Like weld the braces to the new pipe, ect.

A How-To guide would be very helpful...

P.S. What are the legality/emmision issues with taking the muffler out?

Do you live in cali? if not dont worry too much about emissions. when i got my muffler put on the dude just welded it on with new hangers.
You can not commit crimes in a Aveo. Its just not fast enough.

      What I did was:

      1. Unbolt the muffler and removed it.
      2. Make a flange that will bolt to the one on the pipe.
      3. Get a pipe bent at a local shop the way I want it.
      4. Line up and weld bent pipe to flange.
      5. Bolt new pipe/flange assembly to flange on car.
      5. Fabricate hangers to use the two front factory locations. I did not use the rear hanger on the car because it would have not looked good.

I don't have any pics or video. As soon as I get my hands on a digital camera, I will post some.

As for emissions, taking a muffler out won't change anything. It's the catalytic converter that does the trick. As for legality, I wouldn't know as it varies from state to state, province to province and even municipality to the next sometimes.

      Edit:

Forgot to mention that I used the old gasket between the two flanges with some high temp silicone. Best thing would be to get a brand new gasket.

Also, I fab'ed a flange because I have to get my car to pass inspection every year. If it doesn't pass, all I have to do is bolt the muffler, pass inspection and then put the pipe back on. You could just cut behind the flange and get a pipe bent and expanded, then just use a clamp and universal hangers to hold the pipe, without requiring any welding.
