They're probably the vents that permit air flow through the cabin when the windows are closed. They usually locate them in a low pressure area (relative to the higher pressure inlets) at the back of the car to help draw air out of the cabin when driving.
Are they located behind the plastic rear bumper cover?
About the only problem I could see from removing the rubber flaps is you may get a bit of dust in the trunk. Or possibly critters :)
Yes they are.
Lol I assumed that was their purpose.
thanks.
the design also keeps water out of the trunk.. but yeah, its for air flow. also pressure relief (ever hear the story of old camaros with t tops where if you slammed both doors at the exact same time glass would shatter?
haha, no I have never heard of that.
so it's really not a big deal to have those rubber floppy things off :D
Except for the critters!
so water and critters in the trunk don't bug you? :? I wouldn't want critters, but with the water, if you're in deep enough water to where that's submerged - you've probably already lost the engine and have other big things to worry about... 8)
its not about submersion. it the rain splash up by your tires, and the rain the runs down your quarter panel.
the rubber flaps act like shingles on a house, but are flexible to "flap" to let the hotter air out of the car. And let quick pressure changes in the car be released. (like camaro breaking glass) or simpler things like if you slammed your car door and the car was actually sealed as well as is should be (without those flaps) your ears would probably pop like in an air plane..
they simply should remain there. if they are vibrating or something, try spraying them down with white lithium grease inside and out, this will weigh them down, to prevent vibration, but allow them to keep water out, and still be free to move for the pressure changes..
crud, well I've already taken them out, I'll see tomorrow if they're able to be reinserted lol.
But ya they only vibrate loudly because of the 2 12" subs in the trunk.
Thanks for all the info.
This may sound like a stupid question, but you did check that vibration went away, right? And is it the rubber flaps or the housing they sit in? If its the housing you could try siliconing it around the perimeter in there... just my $0.02
that noise did go away, there's still tons of rattle back there but you can definitely tell that that one is gone.
I had to put double sided tape on my license plate to stop some of the rattle.Quote:

I might have to do the double sided trick on my license plate too. I haven't done it yet since I'm still deciding if I want a CF plate frame or not (real cf) or any plate frame for that matter. Haven't put one on since painting it, and kind of like it since I noticed less rattling without one...
Put the volume louder, problem solved lol
Weather stripping + I'm thinking about drilling 2 holes for the bottom of the plate. Why Chevy didn't just make 4 holes...idkQuote:

Also it really sounds like the taillights rattle too, sigh.
And idk if this matters but my box has one sub facing the inside right of the trunk and the other left. Not sure if having them face toward the back seats or towards the trunk door would reduce rattles.
I dynamated the front doors completely and some of the rear doors (the large openings) and it sure did make a difference. I don't hear my exhaust in the car as much anymore, and I'm sure more sound from my sound system stays in the car (I can't say because it all got installed on the same day, so I didn't have a chance to have just the sound system, not the dynamat. But the exhaust sure got quieter inside the car.Quote:

If that makes sense. Well, I did, and the bass does sound better now.
Nice lol.
how much did your Dynamat cost?
I drive an Aveo sedan and I think I'd have to get the entire trunk space Dynamat'ed.
I tried the "Rev" setting, it does sound better, but I don't feel the bump as well.
Here's my box, really wish i would of gotten something different lol.

I know, but for me I'll take the better quality sound over the bump. Plus bump gets old very quickly... You want a little softer base over time (at least for me)...Quote:
