Question What's wrong: Radio only clicks via speakers when turning on/off. No other sound.

I received this message from a shy member who's having trouble with their Aveo's radio:

You have any idea what could he wrong with my radio? When I turn it on the speakers click, then nothing until I turn it off then they click again. Any thoughts?
Doesn't sound like a fuse, or there would be no ON/OFF clicking from the speakers whatsoever.

I'd also want to make sure the correct input/mode (AM/FM etc) is selected, and try turning it ON/OFF in each mode (AM/FM/CD/Aux) to see if any of them work.

Aside from that, well... I have precious little experience with audio. (My current car came with NO radio from the factory, and I didn't even bother putting one in for a couple of years... a used AM/FM cassette deck from an old Honda!)

Try that first. And maybe someone else will chime in with other suggestions.

Thanks Metro. Not shy, don't know how to start a new discussion lol. Have tried checking other programming (am/fm). Same thing. No cd player or auxiliary btw.

Like MetroMPG said, if you're getting a bit of an electronic pop from the stereo it's getting power. And if you're getting power, it should mean the factory wiring harness is plugged in properly. And the speakers are obviously picking up something. It's likely the stereo is just toast. Since you'll need to pull the stereo anyway to either replace with a used factory or an aftermarket, take a look to make sure everything is plugged in tightly behind the stereo.

Ha! OK. It's easy: just go into the subforum of your choice from the main forum index, then click the Post New Thread button near the top left of the page. Type a subject/title, type your post & submit.

I like PoisonIvy's suggestion. Are you capable of pulling the radio? If so, pull it and check all the connectors, and try again. Otherwise toss it in the garbage and find yourself a replacement from the junkyard or favourite audio store.

Yeah, I can do it. I agree. Thinking the stock amp may have took a crap. Car sat for 16 months before I bought it. Stereo hasn't worked since I got it.

Will do, going to search for cheap aftermarket. If I can't find one, I will check the junk yards.
