17" Toro's on a 2009 Aveo5 LT

Hey..

I was looking for my first upgrade today, rims. I found a set of Toro's TR9006, black with machined lip.

They are 17" with a bolt pattern of 4x100 4X114.3 and an offset +38mm. Tires are 205-40R17.

I've had a little rub when I hit dips. Not bad, unless I intentionally hit the dip hard(to test it). I had a Probe 15 years ago that had a similar problem rubbing, so I bought 4 rubber "stoppers" that went in between the coils on the springs to keep the car from bottoming out.

Do you think that will work here or any suggestions? I read where 17's fit, so I am a little thrown off.

damn those are nice w/ yellow. um i think they will help but i hear they fall after a while. theres some spring spacers at auto zone for like 15 buck. u can make ur springs wider similar to those rubber spacers.
im running 18s 215/35/18 they rub with dips like drive ways. but not on the road. but i did notice when my wife and i r n the car it rubs a bit more cause of weight. shes like 98 pounds.
im about 185.<- needs 2 loose some weight. but anywho, when she drives it never rubs.

Ok, I will check out Auto Zone in the morning. I rubbed three times tonight. Once on accident and twice on purpose(I wanted to see what it would take).

BTW, I see on your car you have the clear side lights. Did they come from the factory or did you install them?

add to the bump stops on the shocks. thats the proper way to do it. putting the rubbers in the springs puts a pivot in the spring which is a weak point, and your really rub around a bend if that point on the spring breaks or bends..

Not expensive. Not terribly difficult. Look in the coilover thread I posted it shows the bump stops and where they are located.

I have the same exact size wheels, maybe actually wider (17x7.5) if yours are 7" wide... but mine are 42+mm offset. No rubbing whatsoever, even with 1.5" lowering springs... Could be that KYB shocks are stiffer, but I thought that 42+mm offset rims are placed a little bit more outwards, so there is no rubbing on the inner fender well... If that's the case, there are some spacers to help with that... But rabbit would know a heck of a lot more about that than me... :lol:

They say that improper offset for the car could adversely affect the handling.... Just my $0.02USD 8)

Thanks for the info. I will see what rabbit says about the spacers. I am honestly not sure if I am rubbing on the inner fender well or the outer. 103 outside, gonna let it cool down and then see what I can determine.

higher offset (+) number sits in further..

serega : a rim with a 7.5 inch width and 42mm offset (your specs) has @ 5.9" backspacing (hub mounting surface to edge of inner lip) and 2.6" to the edge of the outside lip..

orion, presuming you have a 7" rim.. and a 38mm offset, you have @ 5.5" backspacing and 2.5" to the outside lip..

with those numbers i would presume you should not rub, but i am willing to bet it is on the outside during a turn.. most likely on the plastic wheel well where the fender meets the bumper in a turn. i rub the a lot..
