      2 questions

i rotated my tires like gm says to and now the back end bounces around

a hole lot and it sounds like the wheel is moving on the studs or

something. the rims are aftermarket and they came with indexing rings to

make the new lugnuts tighten up on the studs. the lugs are tight and im

gonna check to see if the ring is still on there tomorrow. My 1st question

is should i rebalance the wheels after rotation probably need it anyway

b/c i hit a big pot whole with the drivers side front so hard i made the cd

skip in the cd player. 2nd question is when can you tell when you need

new tires. the ones of the front are pretty worn down and i think the need

replacing becasue of the lil marker in between the tread.

Yea the penny trick is good, basically anything less than half an inch needs to be replaced. But if you REALLY wanna be sure, almost all tires nowadays have built in lines, little raised lines in the tread, when the tread wears down to that line, that's the time to replace it.

Also, it's not uncommon for tires to wear inconsistently, my stock 14" tires wore down to wierdly that all 4 were different in tread depth, they sucked anyway in wet conditions so I trashed em for the current ones I got now and I LOVE em.

which tread on the tire do you go by because when you use the penny on the middle 2 treads on my tires one says change them and the other says not to change them

well just use common sense and good judgement. if it seems like they need changin then change em. and if they are wearing funny then have ur alignment checked.

Tires are balanced to the wheel. Meaning (ideally) you only need to rebalanced when you put a new tire on the wheel, you can swap their placement on the car around all day and it shouldn't do anything.

If the middle is worn more that the sides, too much air.

make sure the penny is upside down, theres shouldn't be any inconsistent readings with it. on most tires theres nubs between the treads and when it reaches those, it should be changed. But dont let them get down to the threads.
