Aveo heres the VW part number 6R0501541A....you need 2, if you can't put these in yourself find a shop that will install these for you. Keep your axle.

Did you put in new Munroe rear shocks? Because I have already replaced 2 of them for making this noise, and one of them was only installed for 3 weeks from brand new. If you put other shocks in make sure the foam bumper has been put in...it needs that.

I would expect 300 bucks labour to change the bushings (if they are indeed shot) at least with the VW ones they should last you a very long time.

Welcome to the car that has the world's cheapest, crappiest suspension.

Is the noise coming from the rear or from the front, or from both?

      Thymeclock:
On day 2 after the fitting, clunking in the rear end when cold, OK when warm.
PeterRabit: I agree with all you say and suggested that to the Specialist Suspension Shop that fitted them. He wouldn't have it, and wants the car overnight to prove his point.

      Product type: Sensatrac

      Re-use original top mounting components.

Looks like I need to re-order the original Parts the dealer kept for GM! No way at over $150!!

Last year I had new Munroe Shocks #5794 fitted, mileage, 3,000km. Bought from Amazon!

On day 2 after the fitting, clunking in the rear end when cold, OK when warm.

I thought it would go away, now with 6,200km on the car, its worse!

I see Rock Auto has other brands available, anyone had any experience with these?

My Suspension specialist says the Munroe pistons have too much cold clearance and replace them,
I thought it may be the top mounts.

      Suggestions please.

I put those in the rear last year, same thing you have...I removed the one making the noise and returned it for a new one and installed the new one problem solved.

      Thank you for your reply.

The Munroe web page says to use the Original top bushes.

the cold warm thing throws me, i would say it should be the opposite. but looking at those shocks, it could be the added stiffness in the cold allows the strut top to hit the wheel house. DID you space them down in the mounts? there is only a little bit of clearance for movement before the threaded portion of the shock hits the inside of the rail.

that only means it does not come with them, that does not mean you need oem.

The issue i can see, is the length of the threaded portion above the shock shaft. OEM was rather short. I can't guess a length, but it was about 20-30mm shorter than most of the shocks i tried. This moves the tip of the shock up into the rail where it is mounted. NOW when you have a stiffer shock you experience more movement in the mount versus the shock. This could potentially allow the tip of the shock to move up and bottom out on the rail. A few people experienced this with the coil over install, because there is a need to add a washer to the bottom side on the shock mount with the coil overs.

Thymeclock will continue to say its a cheap suspension, its more like a cheap copy of a good suspension used by VW for about 30 years. I can say that just like a vw, the mounts will need replaced with EVERY strut change at least, sometimes more often (if you buy good struts they might out last the mount).. The $20 range KYB mounts are perfectly acceptable.
