i think it would depend on the offset. but looking at pictures of other cars of people running 17's i dont see why not.
205/40/17 I dont recommend bigger then that.
1. 215/40/17 is way bigger then the diameter of the stock tire, your your speed will be off, 205/40/17 is slightly bigger but very close
2. If you hit a big enuf bump with 215's its gonna rub in the inner fender, specially the rear, i got 205's, and i cant even pass my finger between the outside of the tire and the inside of the rear fender, so forget it the fit is too tight.
Do as you wish but i can tell you by experience since my car is so lowered, that i couldnt fit 215's under there, it would rub as soon as i would put the car back on its wheels.
215 & 205 are width not thickness of the tire. so if 215 is way off in DIAMETER so is 205. but i does depend on offset
Not only is it 10 mm wider, 215/40r17 is 8 mm larger in diameter than the 205/40r17.
but when you are talking about tire fitment, looking at pictures of most of the cars on this forum (even with lowering springs) they still have an 1-1.5 inch of wheel well, and the tires are not near poking. so the additional 1/4" in height and 3/8" in width is minimal.
yes, the "40" in 215/40r17 is the aspect ratio between the width and height. even though the number 40 doesn't change, the height changes when the width changes
Like i said the 215's are wider and bigger in diameter, with a normal 1.5" drop you can probly get away with it, but not with mine, i dont have any wheel well space lol

4k? holy! Did you get the entire thing rebuilt or what?
A friend of mine had his 2.0 rebuilt to factory specs, cost him $3200, exxxxxxxpensive
i bought a stroker crank, then sent it out to get knife edged, and sent all the other internals with it do get lightened and balanced. Bought 11.3:1 over bore pistons (.060). ARP hardware. 48mm ITBs and had a custom manifold welded. A nos autotech street header that they haven't made since 1996. 276 schrick cams. light weight flywheel and Standalone.
Everything is still in pieces.
Still have to spend money on a head, port and polish. gaskets, bearings. And getting the block machined. not to mention clearing the block for the crank, and drilling it for full flow. New oil pump. Light weight pulleys (timing and accessory). Etc.
Then i can start on my tranny.
Man I miss my old '78 rabbit diesel.. top speed of 67MPH.....LOL
But to keep it on topic. With the stock height I am looking to go with the 215/35R18....ewww
I may just stick with the ever-so-cheap 215 17 combo.
those 18"s would be just under 24" rolling diameter.. the 215/40r 17 is just over 23 3/4 " its less the a 1/4 inch height difference.
I know but getting those size tires here would take an act of god. Almost every rim shop here has deals on 205(215) 40 17's because everyone & their grandmother uses them.
I just want some 18's but cannot fathom having to send over $800 extra just because of some damn tires.
see.. i know where to buy european size tires. lucky you.
tires-easy.com has 215/35r18's starting at $60 a piece.
In the states I can find anything. Been doing this a LONG time.
But if you do not mind paying shipping to Panama then hey.
Shipping tires to Panama...HAHAHAHA
$80/ea
so with their shipping to MIA then, MIA to PTY I am looking at
$240 tires
$ 65 shipping to MIA
$320 shipping to PTY

$625 for $60 tires
This is also with no spare or extras, just 4 'ol tires.
One of the few things I hate about living here. Trying to customize anything PROPERLY, just isnt in the cards. Pretty much have to settle for what is in stock here.
i dont know if you plan on coming home to visit. but i have put wheels and tires on the airplane as checked baggage before..
back when you were allow 2 free check bags per person...
i know i asked before but i want to make sure, will 205/40r-17 with 40 offset rims and h&r springs fit right??

ITB's on the aveo wouldn't be hard. hardest part being making the flange and welding a manifold.
