      215/40/R16 Vs 205/45/R16

So I was wanting to get some rims and I decided on some 16s. I was looking to get 215/40/R16 tires; but after thinking about it, will it make the tire look "buldged" out of the rim?
I remember someone put 195/60/R14 tires on the stock rim and the tires looked like they were buldging. so I would probably get the same result with the wider tires on the 16" rim...?

I think there is someone with 215/40/R16 tires on here.

well the stock rim is like a 14x6 so it's gonna look bulged. What size are the rims that you are putting these tires on?

I had 215/40/17 on my 17x7.5's and they looked fine, but I later found out they changed my overall diameter enough that I was driving about 5mph slower than my gauges said.

Recently got new tires and they are 205/40/17 and run alot better, look better too.

I'd say give my buddy Richard a call at http://www.ElementMotorsports.com and he could point you at the right combination for 16" tires.

Buldging would depend on what width of wheels you got. For a 205 tire 7" wide wheel is a good match. Even 215s on a 7" wide wheel doesn't buldge but they look perfect square from the edge of the rim.

I'd go with a 205/40/16 (or 215) versus the 45 sidewall. That's what I plan on doing when I get a lanos. It'll make the wheel look bigger than it is and the tire will be shorter. Only downside is there aren't nearly as many options for a 205/40/16 vs the 45...but if there are a few tires you like in that size then that's all that matters

Sidewall height is just as important. 205/45 is not the same width as 205/60

its going on a 7" wide tire.

I want the wider 215/40 tire, but after seeing the 195/55/R14 tires on the stock 14" rim and seeing it buldge I am just starting to wonder.

I should probably play it safe and get 205/45/R16 tires just because im so parinoid

This reminds me, I'm going to be calculating the best tire size for best contact patch, friction and psi when I have time.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

A 205/45 is too big circumference. Your speedo will read 3.2% to slow. Why does that bulge worry you? 205/45 is meant to go on rims 7-8.5 inches wide so it is just right.

Oh well a 215/40/16 on a 7" wide wheel won't bulge at all. It'll be pretty even with the wheel.

      Here's 215/40/17x7s
