Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
205/40 x 17 Hankook Ventus HRII H405 tires on 17 x 7.5 alloy rims.
What do you think about these? I've got about 4,000 miles on mine and I'm very impressed with them. I run 38psi in the front and 34psi in the rear. Although I am from Seattle, WA I've been in SoCal this month and have been driving the Mulholland road and surrounding twisties along the Santa Monica Mountains. Even with stock height, shocks and springs the tires performed admirably. They break loose very gradually and only when I want them to. Easy to control a drift in most speedy turns. I wish I had a surface temp gun to measure the heat across the treads.
cheers, victor

if you want better handeling set your tire pressure lower so that when the tires are heated they are closer to the actual tire tempreture
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
How much lower should I be running? I've never been able to find good tire pressure information for these low profile tires.
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
depends on what you want to do.. auto X people would probably tell you to take the pressure up.
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
well i race road courses so figure out how much air pressure is added by the tires getting heated for example 5psi so if you wanted to have an operating temperature of 30 psi you would inflate your tires to 25psi so when they are hot they reach 30psi

Or you could run nitrogen filled tires to maintain the same pressure at all temps.
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
where do you get nitrogen for tires?
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
a lot of our local tire places offer it, they charge like $2 a tire or something like that.
but the claim is it is less likely to leak, doesnt change pressure with temperature. and is lighter for better fuel economy.
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
A lot of local tires dealers around here have the nitrogen fill as well, its fairly cheap and it apparently saves gas and doesn't leak, I think its like $30 for all 4 tires and lifetime re-fill.

nitrogen still expands it just expands less

A little to add onto this.
The reason that it is less likely to leak is because the nitrogen is physically bigger than oxygen.
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
I do track days and run 36 front 34 rear. This gives me a little over 40 up front during lapping and wait for it... about 34 in the rear. I'm convinced I could replace my rear tires with some spares and not lose any handling. The car needs sways big time

fr and mr cars use the rear wheels to provide power and the fronts wheels to turn ff cars use the froen for both thereby making it hard to heat the rear tires efficiently try setting your pressure lower in the rear so they heat faster.... or possibly at all
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
I'm aware the dynamics of an FF, FR, AWD, MR... but my wifes old Mazdaspeed protege worked all four tires even. Through long sweepers the rear tires on the aveo don't do crap, however on tighter courses the rear does do some work. Unfortunately however with out much larger swaybars the rear does not do its part... oh then there's the weight distribution issue where about 65% of the weight is on the front of the car.
Re: Anyone else run Hankook Ventus HRII 205/40x17 tires?
yeah well thats FF for you, try a softer compound tire
im using toyo proxes FZ4 right now but in the spring im going back to falken azenis the falkens are really nice but wear quickly
