I finished the switch a long time ago. However I never got around to making the video as I had issues with my head. Now I am back working on it. Short advice, go with lowered springs over coilovers.

I have had both B&G coilovers and H&R lowering springs on my 2009 G3 and I can confirm that out of the box, the spring/shock combo is the combo for a more comfortable ride if you want to go low. I tested the B&G's on every setting from stiff to soft with no change in my distaste for them.
I'd be interested to see someone put softer spring rates on a coilover set to see how they rode.
I love my coilovers
I've never owned B&G coil overs. But I can verify that all the coil overs I have used ride the same whether in the VW they are "intended for" or when used in the AVEO. That said, I stress using mk1 coil overs in the rear.
Talking about trying different spring rates would be ok. But the mk1 is much lighter than an aveo, so the springs should be too soft as it is. I never understood why cheap coils have significantly higher spring rates than better brands. But the ride between the cars is the same for the most part.
This post is really about defining your tolerance of ride comfort to the amount of performance wanted. No matter what it is still an aveo. But you could say the same about a GTI, or any fwd econobox race car..
TRUTH! Rabbit said it. No mater what you chose there are trade offs in your choice (in engineering I like to call those design compromises). In my case, I did buy cheap coilovers and the setup was too bouncy for my taste at speed. So hitting a bridge would cause this bounce that took about 5 to 10 seconds to dampen out. So that could have been setup/cheap coils or whatever. I decided that was a safety issue and said no!
Now when go into a corner, I have that slight bit of softness I get from springs and I miss the coilovers (well just a slight bit). Right now I am pretty happy with the ride, I just need to finish my head and get back on the road.

Running mk3 coilovers and just ordered 326 power 8k springs so with the helper spring and that should soften the ride. Compensating for the height of the assembly itself . Hopefully no more spring bounce

Here is the before. I never drive this way but I was following my dad. Most roads I drive are smooth. Lots and lots of spring clamps.
326 power springs 8k are in doing a install today. Will post more later
Looked like the Brentwood area. Bit O'Advice on the video. Shoot it sideways never vertical. There is a lot of bounce in that car. These are the mkII coilovers?
