      Delaminating brake shoes??

Hey guys, its been a while.

So I have a question, any of you having issues with the brake shoes delaminating after a couple years? I've noticed the tracks in the snow after my wife leaves for work the last few mornings that it looked like her left rear wheel had the e-brake on. So I sent her a message today to check it. She told me that it was not on , but the car was driving funny and was fishtailling really bad last night in the fresh snow we had gotten. She wanted me to look at it when I got around to it.

well, I just took it around the block. About every third braking the left rear will lock-up. DEAD stop. And sometimes even after just a light tap on the brakes. This is exactly how it acted a couple years back when we were on a camping trip. When I tore it apart I found one of the shoes had delaminated and the material was getting jammed up between the other shoe and the drum, causing the wheel to lock-up, just as it has been doing today, and the last few days it seems. I have not torn the wheel and drum off to verify yet, but its acting exactly the same. So I'm betting on the same issue. Here's the kicker, its the SAME side as before too!!

I have heard of this.. no wonder your in a hurry for rear discs :P

i would go to a aftermarket semi metallic. they "don't" absorb moisture and separate like organic pads.

The problem is, these ARE aftermarket semi's from what I remember...

And yes, this would be why!

YUP!! Sure enough pulled the drum off tonight and found that BOTH shoes had delaminated!! Probably just throw the other half of the set I put on 3 yrs ago.

The only thing to go wrong on the pass side was the wheel bearing. The shoes are perfect on that side and they are original at 15?K miles!!
