looking to lower my 2010 Aveo

ok, Im new to the forum so take it easy on me.. I am thinking about lowering my Aveo and looking for replies on what it entails. my son lowered his 05 neon srt4 with eibach springs, but I believe left the stock struts and rides rough for this old man. but have to say the car looks good..

Well first of welcome to the forum sir. Just a few questions. How low do you want to go? How much do you want to spend? There are a few options for lowering your car you can get the lowering springs but you need to upgrade your struts. You could do a coil over swap from a mk2 golf and go really low. There are Quite a few members on this site running lowering springs and some did the coil over swap like i did. It rides rough on bumps but it looks good when i drop it. Coil overs are adjustable ride height so you can go as low as you want. There are a few down sides to coils 1 you have to grind your spindles down in order to fit the fronts 2 you have to get a kit for the sway bar. there are some kits that you could use but we get ours group buy from one of our members. if you need any more info on coils go to the search bar and type in coil over cross post same with springs just type lowering springs.

Well i hope i answered your questions if you have any more don't hesitate to ask. By the way tell your sone he needs to upgrade those struts they don't last long with lowering springs.

classic67 thanks for the reply.. as far as how low, good question..living in Ohio it's not wise to lower them too much with snow in the winter, I hate getting stuck. I guess a good answer would be like 2" lowered. how much to spend...hmmm little as possible, the most for the least. I have 17" wheels on it now if that helps, my wife says I'm too old for this kinda stuff...Lol
the coil over deal sounds like more than I want, not ready to grind on the spindles and add a sway bar kit. what about just swapping the springs with my stock struts? would and inch or 2 effect the struts from bottoming out?

No they wouldn't bottom out but they aren't meant for that stock ones are very soft. upgraded struts are good because they are stiffer. With 17s i wouldn't go very low for rubbing issues with tires. If i were you i would go with lowering springs it gives you a lower look but there isnt a whole lot you need to do. All you need is a basic tool set and spring compressors and you should be good.A good set of springs will only run you 200 im not sure about struts. And your only as old as you think you are ahahaha

Here is an example of springs vs coil overs

here is a link for the front ones and ive seen alot of good things from KYB. They are a little on the expensive side but if you are lowering your car dont take short cuts hahaha lowering joke but realy spend the money the first time and do it right.

I called KYB yesterday. They told me that their struts and shocks will only work with stock springs. The B&G springs only lowered my car 1 1/2 inches. So I don't know what the big deal is.
