i have heard they are all close to the same in quality, but have different spring rates, which somewhat changes the ride.
i have H&R's they ride nice, and a nice drop. (mine is even more though) i have also had intrax, and they seam to be about as good in quality as the others i have had, but tend to be slightly higher spring rate(slightly harsher ride because of that, but better at higher speeds)
i have had eibachs, Intrax ,kareza(sp?), wietecs, jamex, drop zone(not too good), and Vmaxx (not bad for the price), bilstein (coils), etc..
cut dead coils like rabbit did
Coilovers? Adjustable for height and preload.
I believe its lowest drop possible.
Im pretty sure i have the lowest aveo of all the curent active members on the site.
I havent really measured how much from stock its dropped but i bought Apex coils that lowered it 1.5 inches and after a while cut 2 complete coils off each of them lowering it an aditional 2 inches roughly. You cant fit your fingers in the between the top of the tire and the fender. Rolling with that drop with 17's in summer and 14's in winter.
Of course the ride is rough, but not as much as i thought, its slightly harder then the stock Apex coils, but wow does it ever corner like a dream with the 17's on.
coil cutting even on aftermarket springs seems a bit dangerous and more likely to have problems...id get coilovers if i wasnt satified with my drop already you'd prolly get the same drop as Nemasys...jus a bit more coin.
you can go back and forth about safe or not, but its more in how you cut the spring if ti will be safe or not.
if seem more factory springs break than any aftermarket cut springs (i wouldn't bother cutting factory springs cause they dont have a stable measured spring rate the length of the spring... and i dont mean they are progressive, i mean the rate is by the complete unit. where as the aftermarket is matched coil to coil.
Well the way i did mine, front and rear coils are different so i took the two front ones and made identical cuts at the exact same spot on both and did the same for the rear ones, car sits perfectly level, and its been lowered like that for 2 years, never had a problem, still have the stock shocks and struts too 115 000 km, im pretty sure theyre all shot tho but its hard to tell with the suspension that hard. Getting them replaced this spring with aftermarket shocks/struts.
does anyone even make any aftermarket shocks and struts for our cars??Quote:

yeah KYB's are a marginal upgrade.
the rears can me replaced with a more universal shock though since they dont have the spring attached. i was going to use adjustable mustang 2 front shocks.. but need to measure the width of the mount and diameter of the piston rod. also i was looking for a comparable sport shock.
for the front i was going to cut down a front and the pipe thread it it accept a vw cap. and put mk1 or mk2 bilstien sport inserts into it (which ever was correct length but a little shorter than stock) and also possible more the spring perche down the body of the shock.
this was all before i found how close we are to the new astra in suspension design, i am trying to find used astra parts to test fit, then i could just buy coilovers for $620 shipped.
Yes. Apex has lowest drop for all lowering spring. I was on apex also previously also before I changed to coilovers.
Now this coilover can adjust until the whole wheel hide into the wheel arch.
The reason why I changed to coilover is becos, with harder springs (lowering spring usualkly have higher preload), the shock absorber spoil or wear off faster. And unable to cushion the harsher impact or shocks. Coilovers are made or design to work with the preload range of the springs they came with, so its more lasting.
And u will not face the problem of bottoming out your shocks which u face with lowering spring and rubbing of fender by the tyres.
can you give me some more info on the coilover you have for sale on ebay? its still on my wish list..Quote:

thanks.
The spring rate is 8kg in front and 6 kg behind. Adjustable preload and height.
Lowest is possible until the whole wheels goes into the arches, but I dont think you need them adjusted so low, as you will be in big trouble without wheel arch rolling when you hit the pot holes. Your wheels might hit the arches or fenders.
So normally people who install this coilover leaves abt 1 finger in front and 1 finger space behind.
