So just a few days ago I changed the rear struts and mounts on my car, and it's still making that god awful thunk/clunk noise that a bad strut makes. It only happens when I go over bumps. I had my stepdad push up and down on the bumper to see if it made the noise and it did but I also noticed that the rubber grommet on bottom of the upper assembly moved. Is this normal? Anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Please help because I'm dumbfounded. :confused:
I know when I had a 2004, I replaced the rear axle bushings with VW parts (there's info on here), versus replacing the whole assembly. Maybe that's your issue?
Did your car made a loud clunking noise when it went over bumps too? Because when I'm riding on a a smooth road surface the noise is non existent.
Yeah, it sounded like hell over bumps. I actually bought it knowing from the previous owner that it needed a "whole rear assembly". I knew about the VW bushing fix, so I bought it reasonably. (Still probably overpaid though.)
