I read your mind but didn't see your post until now. I picked one up form Walmart that almost like the one from Harbor Freight. It's Stanley rechargeable with LED and was $20. Mine didn't even come with a home charger. Just a auto charger. I could have saved myself some money by going to HB but a really nasty storm rolled in last night. There were even reports of hail in some areas but didn't hit my area. Aveo is safe and sound lol.. Needless to say I didn't work on the Aveo last night. My hoses should be coming in later on today. But before I replace them out I would like to take another crack on searching that leak. I almost done making my home made smoke machine too. Basically it's a paint bucket with a lid, mineral oil, candle wick and with a heated wire around it. Uses 12 volts to operate and of course compressed air. I put it all together last night during the storm.

I hope you find a solution in your quest because I have the exact same issue you have on my 08 aveo after it's been sitting for some time, it's actually a random occurrence but what remains constant is the duration it has been sitting. I haven't taken any steps to resolve the issue nor do I have a daughter that drives it but I understand your frustration resolving a potential safety hazard that's not always present. I make it a ritual to pump the brakes before I back out of the driveway so I dont just roll out into the street, I patiently await your resolution!

Is the intake manifold plastic on these cars ?
Cracks ?

Id have to go look.
After reading over the thread I'd actually wager a check valve getting stuck after sitting because I cant see a leak causing intermittent problems, How long should it take to form a vacuum to spec on start?
What really makes this a difficult problem is because it isn't always there, It would be a long arduous process because you wont know what you did if that fixes the issue. This is the reason why I never bothered diagnosing until it got worse to where I could repeat problem but unfortunately It hasn't in the past 2 years

The original poster has not found a check valve on his AVEO .
Our car is a 2015 Sonic & is not the same ( I posted a couple of photos a few days ago ) .
The reason I asked about a plastic intake manifold is I was wondering about a crack where the vacuum booster hose attaches to the intake manifold ?
I also wonder is that fitting has a check valve built into it ?
Did you see his photos & my photos ?

a crack in the manifold would almost immediately throw a few check engine lights. (air metering via mad or map and primary o2), and The manifold also doesn't hold vacuum on its own, so it wouldn't affect a vacuum leak down over night. It would still produce some vacuum.. which is inconsistent with the brakes returning to normal when driving.
Did the new hose work?
You are probably correct . I would love to see a photo of that fitting on the manifold , once he gets the old booster vacuum hose off .
Do not know if he has changed the hose out , yet ?
Hey , how about live streaming video ?
