      Painted Steel Wheels

I was thinking about removing my hubcaps and painting my steel wheels a flat black. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and liked or disliked the outcome. I plan on dropping the car a couple inches in the future. I'm a noob at the whole car modding scene so let me know what you guys think!

I have personally painted by old Miata rims which did turn out pretty nice, though I'm not 100% happy with the colour. I will probably be painting them a matte black in a few weeks hear in order to look more "presentable" to clients. Any kind of painting can become very time consuming, If you are wanting a bit of a different look I might suggest looking for a used set of rims online. You are looking for a 4 x 100 bolt pattern (same as the 4 bolt civics) and something in a 15" or 16" rim. My only word of warning is that you need to measure the central hole of the rim to make sure that it will fit on the aveo. I had endless issues trying to get my Miata rims to fit, and ended up having to machine them out myself to get them on the hub. You should be able to find a used set of 4 for under $200. These will add much more personality to the car then a matte black steely will IMP.

Thanks! The only thing I'm not too sure about is the width of the wheel. i have found a few sets I like but they are 7" wide. I would hate to get a set that scrubs non stop.

I painted mine and removed the hub cabs. Looks okay against the blue with 20% black tint. But I agree with Quckturn, your much better of finding a used set online, and if you feel frisky get them sandblasted/powder-coated. thats costs a lot of money unless you know someone in the business.

So my opinion troll craigslist before you let just the steelies show

I painted mine because they were rusty and my wheel covers were scratched up. You can see my DIY write up here:

A few months later I then went back and sanded out my wheel covers and repainted them. I guess I just like the stock look better.
