Raise up the back end? Or lower the front?
Everyone is always looking to lower their cars, but personally, with my system in the back, I need to raise up the ass end. Got positive camber in the front, negative in the back, and my headlights cause people to flash me their brights at night. Not to mention it's wearing my tires funny.
Would it be rear shocks, front struts, or springs I need to replace to get it back to level? And I don't really want to lower the car and make every little bump harsh. I just want the car to look like it's empty. (level)
Anyone have any suggestions for me? Or is there a post somewhere that I missed?
Thanks!
Re: Raise up the back end? Or lower the front?
is it lowered already? or are you on a factory suspension? how much weight would you say the stereo stuff adds? and how much height are you trying to get back?
you should aim your headlights after lowering the car, or doing anything really the effects the ride height. you could aim the lights down so you wont get high beamed.
but in your situation i think (unless you are already lowered) i would say lowering springs. only because they typically have an increase in spring rate. but if your stereo is a lot of weight, it might not be enough of a rate change. in that case i would say either switch the rear shocks to air shocks. or spring spacers (like a coil over spring lift kit for a jeep) or even helper springs that go on the shock. but these are all "ghetto" solutions. the real solution is coilovers so you can adjust the height properly. but they aren't readily available.
Re: Raise up the back end? Or lower the front?
No, it's not lowered, it's all stock. Really the whole car is stock with the exception of the radio & subs, etc. I'd say the box & everything adds, oh, probably 90lbs to the extreme rear of the car and probably makes the ass end low by at least an inch. I swear that the front end is lifted because of the weight in the back.
So the only solution isn't actually a solution because the parts aren't available for the Aveo? Sweeet. Oh, and it's an 07 hatchback, if it makes a difference.

what system you have in it, any pics?
Re: Raise up the back end? Or lower the front?
They're 2 2ohm JL 10W3V3's, each with an Alpine M350 amp that puts out 400w RMS @ 2ohms. Head unit is an Alpine CDA-9883, and the 4 speakers are Polks. Won't win any awards, but it works. It's just so damn heavy.
Oh, and I've got an Alpine HD tuner in my passenger seat pocket, since I can't figure out where to mount it.
And to make weight matters worse, I've got a bulk pack of Dynamat Extreme on the way.
Re: Raise up the back end? Or lower the front?
take all that speaker-ness and and ull get better mpg!!!
on a serious note, stiffer springs may do the trick as they will hold a lil better under the weight, but as with any springs with more weight on them then they are meant to hold, u will eventually get sag.
Re: Raise up the back end? Or lower the front?
I'll take the tradeoff for less mpg to have tunes. Fo sho.
My thinking, if it was possible was if I could get *slightly* stiffer springs that were the same height, and get shocks that were slightly taller (if they exist), it would hold the car up, and the ride shouldn't really be affected. I kind of like the ride of the car, if you're not taking corners, it really does kind of ride decent. After the dynamat, even the road noise should be gone. Sweet.
So no real solution then? That totally blows.

my solutions are all still available. you just have to know where to look, and be handy.
