Rusted "wheels" - possible to repaint?

So, post #2 in September. Working up towards 10.

The "wheels" on my 2011 Aveo are rusty. To me this looks so tacky. Could I paint over that with say Rustoleum spray paint?

If so, what would be the best way to do it?

I actually would then like to spray them with a clear "glitter" ...

Yeah, that should work. I'd just take a wire brush to them, and then clean them as much as possible. Then mask the tires.

I should have mentioned, I've done this before on an older Ford Escort, and it turned out great. I did put hubcaps back on, which were a similar open style like many of our Aveo's have, but it really cleaned them up.

i can second this too, a very inexpensive way to make stuff look great.. rustoleum works great, so too does high heat flat black bbq paint - put it on your calipers and exhaust too.. i've done really rusty rims this way, lots of wire brushing elbow grease makes a great paint job, one thing i learned was to put the coats on 'really thin' instead of 'really fat and drippy'. don't even worry if the first coat doesn't get it all, the point is spray really, really light, and thin, and do 4-6 coats that way instead of two thick drippy coats - takes very little time
