Ya true I was just looking at the rear coils and thinking the same thing. I had the strut mount replaced and the control arm bushing to get rid of what I think patrickd_21 is mentioning. Both had some play in my situation. I could reproduce the sound by hitting small speed bumps faster than normal, or by going up a driveway with that tiny concrete raiser on it fast. Drove me nuts too.. and unless one can do the strut mounts oneself, it might be worth upgrading while fixing.

      Clunk noise in front end

I had the same exact issue with my 2004 Aveo, going up and coming down the driveway...believe it or not, when it was all said and done it was a loose bolt. I had the car up on the lift when the tires weres being rotated and asked them to take a large pry bar to see if they could find it. Unfortunately I failed to ask which bolt was loose but assumed it was the sway bar.....haven't heard the clunbk since
