Spring Tension on Strut/Weight Dist.

Hey guys. Funny question I have today, lol.

I installed my new KYB's not too long ago, and when I got them the fronts came with a new top nut that's taller then the old one. I installed the new top nut under the old one, because I'm stupid.

Now the problem is when my car is on the ground, under the hood it looks like my strut mounts are bad because the taller nut is causing quite a big gap there.

Bottom line question: can I undo the top nuts on the front strut towers with the car simply on the ground? Is the weight of the car enough to hold everything in place while I rearrange my nuts?:rabbit: I know this sounds kind of ghetto, but I really don't want to rip the struts out all over again, rent a compressor, the works.

I also have H&R springs, not stock ones.

let me get this straight, you put the bearing nut on above the spring cap, and want to trade them? the only issue i could see is if the strut self compresses while you are swapping it. I would suggest maybe jacking up the car on the control arm to add weight to the spring. but i can usually push a lowering spring (into the ground) enough to start the nut by hand. no compressor needed.

i think the only issue you will run into is if things dont go well you will have the spring keeping you from being able to get the strut back out but i dont see why your idea would work. unless you cannot turn the nuts without spinning the shock.

also instead of renting a compressor, buy one of these..
