      Sway bars--better that stock

      Hi Aveoions!
      I have not found a parts house that has everything I need in one stop.
      Mostly looking for heavy duty sway bars.

      Lower control arms with polyurethane bushings and a front strut tower bar.

      sways are not available. I replaced the front sway bar bushing with polyurethane which helped but its still not as ideal as a larger bar.

      Polyurethane bushings for the control arms you will have to get from an off road shop... when/if you do, let me know the size and part number so I can get some as well that will save me the $$ for purchasing another stock bushing to take down to an off road shop. Also the rear is kinda wierd, but can be filled. Here's some pictures for you.

      i found a rear sway bar that fits the aveo, just waiting to put one on myself to see if its too big or not (28mm) but i test fitted it loosely while it was off my friends car, and it will bolt up. just need to see if its too stiff. but if it works its like $235 shipped.

      also working on a front sway option.

      not just what car, it has to be a particular sway bar..

      this is what i test fitted: autotech mk2/mk3/corrado vw, the mounts are specific to autotech, so other brands for the same car may not fit. particularly the banded axle clamp style. it will require two hole drilled into the bar for the mounts, and possible different shock bolts than the kit comes with (for thread pitch)

      I'm not sure about Aveo's / FWD cars, but I do know on my old RWD car, its a no-no to add or increase the rear sway bar without doing the same thing to the the front sway bar.

      Adding a rear bar alone will cause dangerous and strange handling on the old car.

      Not sure if that applies to the aveo.

      adding a rear sway bar on a fwd car will help reduce understeer. If you live in a warm place where there is no snow during the winter months, a rear sway bar on the aveo would be great. In snow and ice, the rear sway bar might make the car less stable and prone to oversteer.

      28mm would be nearly deadly on a car with such a short wheelbase... i had a 28mm on my Cavalier with no front and the car would oversteer making a left at an intersection... it would be very unstable on longer high speed corners... unless you added a 24-28mm up front... i dont suggest it...


      ...However, now that you found a car that has the same style and size rear swaybar as we could have... time for OEM size solutions!


      How has this worked out for you petrified.rabbit? or have you done this yet?

      ive had it on and off a few times. its an add on autotech sway bar for a mk3 vw.. goes right on as there directions.

      no factory option, but if you look hard enough you can find older versions in 19 and 21 mm.. but if you switch brands the mountings change. be careful of that.

      it was great around town and such, but a little tight for 80mph+ on the highway. but i can install it in about 15minutes, so going to try it in between events at autocross this summer with the coil overs,

      I had a fleet (hutch?) of VW Rabbits / MK1 Golfs, and used a 19mm bar on the rear only. Neuspeed, I think. (Swapped it from car to car as I progressed through my fleet). Never had any negative handling issues, including winter driving.
