who has tried coilovers?

i just ordered a pair of mk2/3 rokkor coilovers for about $300, just curious if anyone else has done the setup? particulary lokking for info on the grinding and what you used to do it.

nope, no i went through the thread, just trying to find specific details, like what type of grinder? ride quality? idk just some more details

a 4" angle grinder will work, you can get one for $10 at harbor freight.

to be honest, the rokkor coil overs on an aveo ride as good as they do on a vw (have had them on both), but they are still entry level and stiff compared to stock. It's not so bad that i can't hop in my car and drive it anywhere, either 1000 miles on the highway or just around town. It is kind of annoying though on cobble stone streets, and construction/uneven/ground pavement areas. But that isn't everywhere all the often..

Of the 5 kits i have sold (6 if oyu count mine) The only person who has them installed and talked to me about it was reddemonx. He had some issues that we worked out over the phone during the install, and are still trying to figure out why he is not as low in the rear as he wants. He achieved maybe 2 or 2.5" in the back, but still has some gap, and wants to level it out more.

I can try to offer all advice i can.

As rabbit said i am currently trying to figure out why the back coils wont make the car level. As it sits now it takes a nose dive. Still drives very good. I think the difference comes from my aveo being the 4dr sedan and you guys have the hatchbacks. But no other problems besides that. Very nice ride around here on pretty level streets

i know i bought the kit so long ago it seems now.
just waiting on the money to roll in. I finally decided to go with b&g's for the 16 levels of dampening and lifetime warranty.

I am also in need of more specific instructions on how to do the grinding. I desperately need new shocks, so Im planning to order the coilovers soon. Ive had stock shocks since Ive bought the car and now Im coming to 80k miles and Ive been on H&Rs for about 65k miles. Yeah I know, thats horrible, lol.

the grinding is not hard really. when you pull the stock shock off, you will see the top of the spindle. the spindle has 4 plateaus (2 per side) where the bolts go though, widening the spindle to the shock taps.

All you are doing is grinding those 4 plateaus flat with with the rest of the spindle. grind some and test fitting the coil over and repeat until the coil over goes on, so you dont take too much..

See the gap between the shock and spindle in the middle section (between the bolts) the plateaus are where the spindle is thicker where the bolts go through..
