      backup light switch issues.

I have a 2009 Aveo5 with the manual trans. The backup lights don't work. (Not the brake lights) I've done the normal checks. I replaced the bulbs just in case. The fuse is also good. My test light shows no power to the sockets. So I checked the backup light switch. Am I correct that the switch is located just below the brake master cylinder, on top of the trans? I disconnected the switch and removed it. I am confused because this switch looks different than the pics of the replacement part. The switch I pulled out is all plastic. It has a 3 pin connector on one end and female threads with a small plunger up inside of it. There's another plunger with male threads with a small bolt next to this still in the trans. First off, do I have the right switch? And if I do why does it look different then the replacement. I cleaned it and put it back in. The lights still don't work and I don't want to start spending money if I don't have the correct switch.
      Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks!

That sounds right, the other thing sounds like the speed sensor. Here's a picture of it from the manual

The picture that you are showing looks like the replacement part. Unfortunately it does nt look like the switch I pulled off the car. Does the man@ual tell you where it is located? I read from an older quote that it was located on top of the tranny under the master cylinder. The drawing you posted looks more like it may be on the side. I guess I'm going to have to crawl under and look around. I don't like pulling things out of a tranny unless I'm sure of what I'm doing.

That is some sound advice there. Personally I would rather pull out a transmission than a tranny.

Ok, that was funny. I was so not thinking that way. But I would not mind a he-she around if they can tell me where the backup light switch is on a 09 Aveo.

I wish I could help you. I have a 2006 chevy, would the manual transmission be the same? I found a diagram for a 2004 (same as 2006). This might help you. And agree help is help no mater where it comes from.

I saw this diagram. I can't tell where it's located. I also read that it's just under the master cylinder. I'm guessing the 09 transmission is different. I will crawl under the car with this diagram and have a look around.
      Thanks!

I think I found it. It is on the front side of the transmission. If you look down next to the left side of the battery, just under the radiator overflow hose. There it is. I took it out and it looks right. I would still like to see a pic just to confirm that I got the correct switch.
      Thanks

Here is the picture I took last night. Granted I have very easy access to most of the stuff in my aveo since I have removed all the front skin.
