      a/c compressor replacement

My daughter was quoted $1000 to replace her compressor and the drier - seems kinda high. I found one on Rock auto for $181. I am assuming they are using a factory replacement or =. She is out of state from me so I can't even look at it. Does this sound on the level?
Forgot to put this in originally - it is a 2007

Wow!!! What year Aveo? That seems very high IMO for a first gen aveo.

Yeah the a/c parts for the Aveo are pretty cheap. For $216 you can get a kit that includes the compressor, dryer and expansion valve plus the o-rings. But depends what year of Aveo you may have. My son's 2006 Nissan Sentra need a lower pressure hose to be replaced. He took it to the dealer and quoted him $750 for the job including the parts. I know a friend at the dealer and dropped it down to $220.00. A/C work can be pretty expensive depending where you take it to. It pays to shop around.

This is why I continue to do my own car work. Yes that is way over the top expensive. I would say 500 on labor is high but not unreasonable.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

There must be quite a few shops doing A/C down there, so why isn't she getting as many quotes as possible? For an A/C repair, which is not critical to the basic functioning of the vehicle, she could go with the lowest quote.

Got it done for $275 labor + parts - local mobile mechanic. Double checked the system before starting. All is well!
