Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
Alright i picked up the switch and I took it apart and soldered some speaker wire to pins 1 and 4 and just ran it out the bottom side of the switch. I zip tied the switch to the shifter as shown in previous posts.
I have an 08 svm and i have the 5 yr 100k mile warranty so i didn't want to cut, splice or solder any of the vehicles wires so i pushed the 2 wires into the back of the connector and wrapped tape around it so i can just pull them out if i have to take it in for warranty work.
I also tried connecting the light on the dash and it did not work but i dont care all that much about it.
It does work nice and for the 22$ i spent on the switch it was well worth it :!: :P

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
You need to have a 2006 and over Aveo with drive by wire, buy the factory Aveo cruise conrol switch at the GM dealer, and install it.

I'm gonna say yes.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
I ordered the cruise switch/module from my local dealer and it cost me exactly $21.89, I am going to assume this price varies depending on the dealership. I installed it a few hours ago and it works beautifully, just like any cruise control. I have a 2007 Aveo Icelandic as bare as it could get. After reading these posts I thought hmm.. this could really work. And it does. The only part that can be misread is what pin on the cruise switch is needed to be used. It is 1 and 4, someone reading it can mistake "the two outside pins" as being pin 3 and 4.
Yeah also try not to connect the two green wires out of the harness in the firewall backwards otherwise, as mentioned before in this thread, your car won't accelerate past half and the check engine light will come on. I made this easy to do mistake, now I'm just waiting for it to turn off... it will eventually because everything is hooked back up properly. Just mark the wires or remember what goes where.... it was pretty dumb of me not to do it.
All in all the cruise is awesome and thanks everyone for posting, this definately helped me.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
Post pics of where you installed the switch.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
I mounted mine below the cup holders, tucked up behind the lip...it's easily reachable and discreet. I'll take some pics when the g/f doesn't have the car.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
possible to put cruise on a stick shift?

My aveo is manual as well, works like a charm.
And as response to my last post about my check engine light, it did turn off after like 10 miles of driving, which I knew it would anyway because there isn't anything wrong anymore.

That's about where I put mine too, I'll try to get a pic some point

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
Just an idea of where to mount the switch. Beats putting it on the washer lever.
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
where is the switch originally supposed to mount if you want to go factory look?
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
In the Steering wheel.
It appears you'll need the complete steering wheel assembly and special collar so there's no wiring to twist up when you turn the steering wheel.
Thats why everyone mounted it in these different, not so pretty places.
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
man that sucks. I will have to think about this then.
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
Ya, I pulled off the steering wheel and found the mounting are tabs missing and the clock spring doesn't have the connector for the switch.

Did you check both sides?
My car has a little door on both sides. Wishful thinking.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
The other side is for stereo controls.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
Hi,
I also have a 2006 sedan, but the cabling is different. The upper connector has a different cabling then in the pictures, and the bottom connector has no wires in. Any ideas?
How can I check if the model is 'drive by wire'?
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
It should be drive by wire
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
Hey all, My 2007 LS was a miss. Any conformation as to what wires to tap into on the ECM.

easy, look for a throttle cable that goes to the throttle body, no cable. then it is drive by wire..

I have the throttle cable.
So that means no cheap cruise control for me :(

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
All american and canadian aveo went to drive-by-wire in 06.

I was more then a little disappointed about that. I don't even have the green wires in the bottom plug

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
I think I'm just going to mount mine in that little rubber piece in front of the shifter.
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
Just had a peek at the engine while cleaning the car and I have a normal throttle cable! Stupid 1.2 engine! So I have the hole in the steering wheel for the controls and no way of fitting it! Thanks Chevrolet Europe! :(
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
you would still be able to do it, there will just be more parts involved.
not sure what though on top of/other than adding a throttle cable and actuator.
-
Re: The cruise control DIY thread.
Yeah but I think he means that it sucks he can't have $20 cruise, he needs to get a few extra things.
-
The price must have went up on these, I called every dealer within 20mi of Detroit. The best deal I got was $42. I did buy the 2008^ version GM Part# 96813273. I was not sure if the 07 switch would work Part# 96433106. I could have got that for $35, but I figured for $7, better to be safe than sorry.
