      Don't try this.

why? a 1.5 volt battery wont fry anything and will show continuity? a test light in the circuit will still come on and off.[/quote:gku5uyq6]

Because it is not just an on/off switch. There is a logic board in there that controls the signal to the cruise control program in the ECM. Applying milivolts in the wrong polarity could easily make a chip toast.

Almost had an ass made out of u and me petri...you know the rest.

Rob, Thanks for the tips. I worked all day and couldnt test anything tonight....

Could testing the green wires with a continuity testor fry my cars ecm? Maybe I'll buy a good multimeter. I could use one.

I did make sure the thing was clicked on. I even tried it in off mode just to see if it would work that way.

Are you just going by the fact that the light in the dash isn't coming on so therefore the cruise isn't working?

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.

hehehe No, I understand I didnt hook up the wire for the light.
I'll make sure the main on/off button is pressed into the on position.

      I'll get to a speed above 35 mph. 40/50 ect..and press set.

I've tried to press and hold it for a few seconds. I've tried just a click. I'll release my foot from the pedal and the car just slows back down normally. You can usually feel when cruise kicks in...I dosent ever feel like it kicks in.

I've tried to press 'cruise' then 'Set' simultaniously, and still nothing.

I redid all the connections and I thought I solved the problem. I thought one of the t-taps did not cut through the insulation completely.

I test drove it again, nothing.

      Repeat.. Test drove it, nothing,

Went to remove everything AND ONE OF THE DAMN GREEN WIRES COMPLETELY BROKE.

I got the ends stripped, twisted them together and taped them up for tonight. I'll have to solder in the AM.
My advice is not to use any type of t-tap.

Be prepared to cut your new aveo wiring and resolder, only to find out it just dosent work on your particular car.
Sorry, but this was my expirience.

I personally thing T-taps are a horrible invention. When I did mine, I just stripped back the casing and soldered the wires on.

Re: The cruise control DIY thread.

Can u believe it, ...I got it to work.

I checked the connections...I even dared to test continuity from the ends of my 2 wires to the tips of the connector just to be sure there was good contact being made.
(I was worried the small current could affect the pcm if it made it that far) fortunately it didnt.

I hooked the switch back up to the 2 outermost pins as instructed and drive off...

      Still nothing...

So, I drive on thinking..."Well I know the signal must be making it to the switch"...so this switch is defective. I guess I'll have to return it.

And then I thought, hey why not try the other pins on the switch, just for the heck of it....
So Thinking maybe I had the configuration backwards i tried the 2 inboard pins

(the pins are in a row, 1234. The directions say 3/4 I tried 1/2....)

      .....Sigh.....still nothing.....

Ok **** it, without even stopping I just took a wire out and plugged it back it at will....So now it was pins 1/3...

Click set..release gas....pure disbelief....I feel the cruise engage! car purrs on ahead full steam.

So wierd....My switch is either ****ed up or certain switches have different settings?

I dont know, maybe mines an anomoly.

But at least I got it to work. ...total cost...Just under $30..

Congrats, feels good saving money doesn't it?. I love telling people how much it cost to install cruise in the car and do it myself.
