Hey folks!
I'm wondering if I could install OEM fog lights on my aveo and if so, what would I need? Also, is it possible to install HIDs to them?
Hids would be blinding, don't put them in fogs. I did a retro and installed is300 fogs on my aveo, which are projectors so they are fine for hids. If you want to install factory fogs I have found andysautosport and carid both have them for like 70 bucks a pair. You would need a relay harness to install them
No. Never power anything from the fusebox unless it is very low voltage like an led strip or something. 55w fogs aren't low voltage. A relay takes power right from the battery. I have a diagram in another thread, try searching "fog light relay". I'm on my phone otherwise I would link you. The diagram is there. And you can wire the relay turn on to a headlight fuse (you are only drawing a tiny bit of power to switch the relay) so it will turn on with headlights. Also, I have a 2010 so my fogs are way different then yours, otherwise I would go through the process of installing OEM ones
So I finally got all of my parts and began my oem fog light install on my '06 aveo hb. I started by removing the driver side wheel and then the plastic fender well liner. Then I removed half of the screws and bolts holding the bumper on to allow me to reach the plastic covers where the fog lights are going. I did not want to have to remove the entire bumper so this was very tight. But I managed to pull the plastic covers and install the new fogs with very little trouble. I repeated this process on the passenger side. I just started wiring them in with a universal harness and I'm going to run the on/ off cable to the new factory turn/headlight/high beam/ fog switch I bought as I wanted them to appear factory.

That looks awesome! Total cost?
Factory or aftermarket fogs?
So you used a universal wiring harness and the factory turn signal arm switch where your headlights and high beams are right? How did you wire the harness to work with that turn signal arm?
The switch with the fog light on/off in it, i wanna buy it too and make it look factory but have no clue how to hook up the switch with a universal harness
i have oem styles in mine, i wired the switch to a second 4 way hazard switch
I had to purchase a new headlight combo switch that included the extra wire/ switch for the fog lamps. Then we connected the fog lights to an Un occupied fuse slot and ran the wire under the steering column to the switch. It has constant power so I have to remember to turn them off or I'll drain the battery, but they work great and again, look factory correct.
What wire did you run under the steering column? Maybe have a diagram of how you did this and maybe what wiring harness you used
Where did you get the grille without the Chevy bowtie on it?
Good looks! I'll have to search around for it! Thank you!
Is it possible to take the fogs, wires, and column switch from an 08 LT sedan and put them in an LS sedan of the same year and maintain the ability to use the oem fog switch like stock?
Has it been done? And how involved is it for the wiring? Like is it pretty much plug and play? I don't see a lead for dogs but I see prongs where the relay goes in the fuse box
you'd probably need to do your own bit of wiring, unlikely that the wiring would be plug and play but i'm sure the switch would
Easier to run your own and just hide it. Ran all my led and strobes through the grommet on the driver side behind the fender. Attachment 10544 Fog switches are right between the pillar and gauge cluster on dash. the one dangling switch is for the led module mounted on the under cover of the steering wheel, going to replace soon with air plane style switch in the circles next to the hazards. Led strip across the column I have to re do in black tape. Interior is worth about $10-$15k. Lol 😂😂😂
I post off my phone so everything goes side ways Here's with the lights on and now Attachment 10545 I hid them behind the grill now because I want oe fogs alsoAttachment 10546. Attachment 10547
All those are old photos from the winter a lot has changed since then. I promise it my last post lol Attachment 10548
my oh my....
So after doing a motor swap and seeing all the connectors (and inspecting my fuse box to find the fog relay slot and fuse slot both have prongs already in them) I noticed that above the transmission there is a connector that looks a lot like the taillight wiring connector (with grey foam on it).
I also added a hitch hitch and plug and play hitch connector hence why I figured this out.
What I'm getting at is that maybe the connector above the trans is the headlight connector? If so, the OEM fog harness may plug and play into that connector like my hitch connector did with the tail light- as in you separate the connector and add the t connector into it and add the switch on the column and fuses/relays and voila you get working oem fog lights.
If if someone with OEM fog lights could confirm this by chasing the fog light wires that would be super helpful.
i ask because I may get the fog lights and switch and harness from another 08 that came with them from the factory and would love to know if I can uninstall them from that car and then plug and play into my car.
I also came to this conclusion when I looked up wiring harnesses (because I did the motor swap and wanted to see if I could install the manual trans into the automatic without major issue) and only found 2 wiring harnesses; one of which was auto and one that was manual- neither mentioned fog lights though.
Anyone who's willing to chase wires for giggles please let me know! THANKS!
