How to fix the trunk mechanism on Aveo

      Hi everyone,
I've got an Aveo sedan. The trunk mechanism has been broken for years, meaning that it won't stay up. I've taken it to the Chevrolet dealership for repair, they said I need to order a whole new mechanism, does anyone on this forum know how this works or how to fix it? I'm not sure if the mechanism is the same in every country.
      Thanks

I thought those things stay up as a counter-weight. I don't see anything that acts as a spring.

Have you checked any salvage yards for parts?

We need some sedan owners to take look. Maybe take some pictures of a working mechanism.

There has to be some kind of spring or something acting as a torsion bar to keep the trunk up. Here is an idea put your phone on delay with flash and close the lid so you can get a picture of the mechanism closed.

Here's my 2010. I'm not sure if I see any difference. It may be as easy as just tweaking it slightly. Maybe closing it down on something bent one of the mechanisms out of alignment slightly.

Are you holding the trunk completely open in these pics? The rubber stopper on the main arm should be striking the top inside of the trunk.

If you aren't holding it completely open, and you can get the rubber stopper to hit the trunk roof, I'd try putting some pressure on that wishbone piece where the rotating rod connects.
