How replace the ignition lock cylinder?

      I have a 2006 Chevy Aveo LS.

Posted a couple of days ago about a broken key in the ignition. Decided the cheapest solution is to buy a new lock cylinder. BUT I have no idea how to change the lock cylinder.

Has anyone done this? Do I have to remove the steering wheel, and if so, how do I do that?

      1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
      2. Remove the lower steering column cover panel by removing the screws.
      3. To remove the lock cylinder of the switch cylinder housing, press down the detent spring with a 2.5 Allen wrench, or other suitable tool, and pull out the lock cylinder.
      4. Remove the ignition lock cylinder as follows:
        • Turn the key to the ACC position.
        • Using a 2.5mm Allen wrench, press down the detent spring in the ignition lock cylinder.
        • Remove the ignition lock cylinder.

      To install:

      1. Install the ignition lock cylinder and remove the key.
      2. Install the lower steering column cover panel.
      3. Connect the negative battery cable.

If yours is an automatic, did you try moving the shifter around and trying to turn the key at the same time? Wiggle it back and forth in Park.
