Make your Aveo an Aveo Xtreme (SEMA 2003/04 Aveo show cars)
[Admin note: GM made two different "Aveo Xtreme" show cars. This 'Fritz-the-Katt Lime Green' one was shown at SEMA in November 2003. A slightly different yellow one was shown in 2004.]
For those of you that want to make your own Aveo Xtreme heres a parts list, below...

Make your own Aveo Xtreme:
Start off with a Versus Wide Body Kit from Gravana: $1,600

Next are the Rims and Tires: $789 from Custom wheels, car rims, truck rims, chrome rims, chrome wheels, discount tires
Akuma Wheels N-005 17x7.5 inch Black Offset FWD

Then Sparco Seats: $600 ea. I chose to upgrade to the adjustable seats for only $50 more. The original seats are the Fighter series
Sparco USA

Now here is where the options come in.
# In the 2003 Sema version there is a new fuel door. While it looks nice, its a pain to install.
# If you have a stock spoiler you are good. If you need to get one they are $176 unpainted and $226 painted.
# You can move the turn signals into the headlight housing in the empty spot (commonly used for city lights or strobes).
# The 2003 version has clear taillights, whlie the next years had stock. You can make yours clear by popping them into the oven to soften the adhesive and pulling off the red lens.
# You should upgrade and paint your brakes for a better match of the SEMA show car.
# The SEMA car has a black mesh grill, galvanised metal and black plastic are the cheapest/easiest to find.
# The Versus body kit does not come with side air scoops that cover up the small rear window, they don't do anything but add a little flaire.
# Both versions have chrome racing pedals and a dead mans/ foot rest.
# You may want to fiberglass over the cup holder to incorperate two new guages. Voltage and Air/Fuel, or anything you want really.
# The second show car (yellow one) seems like the kit doesn't get as close to the ground as the year prior (green). That's because the green one is dropped.
# In the Show Car the rear bench seat is removed and replaced with two more racing seats. The rear bench weighs a lot compared to two racing seats, so you can put the racing seats in and have a custom roll cage installed.
# With a roll cage, marine speakers (mount onto the piping) would look good if done right.
Other Upgrades You might want (not seen in the SEMA photos)
# CAI
# Colored Silicone hoses and hose sleeves
# Grounding Wires
# Upgraded Spark Plus and Wires
# Strut Bar
# Engine Paint/Gloss
# Neon/Strobe Lights (Tastefully done!)

You must have a clear lense made to replace the red lens, or it will not have a lens... go to http://www.IznTrbl.com to get a clear lense made.
Nice post man, well done on the research.

both Aveo Xtreme cars sold at auction last year
Reviving this old thread because I just discovered what happened to the two Aveo Xtreme show cars that GM made for SEMA 2003 and 2004...
As we all know, GM was short on cash the past few years. So what did they do to help pay the bills? They auctioned off 125-250 custom and show cars from their collection, including both Xtreme Aveos!
Quote:
GM spokesman Greg Wallace [...] says he can't recall the last time so many GM collectibles have been sold at once. The cars, drawn from the 1,000 vehicles GM keeps at its Sterling Heights (Mich.) Heritage Center, cost roughly $2,000 each to store, maintain, and transport each year.

Here's the auction photo of the 2003 show car (source):

And the description (from the Business Week article):

2003 Aveo Xtreme
Estimate: $15,000-$20,000
Another SEMA job, this pocket rocket concept car has a lot of body panels that set it apart from the factory Aveo—a new front fascia, fender extensions, rocker treatments, rear quarter window scoops, and rear spoiler. It has a performance brake system and 17-inch rims with performance tires. Inside, a black leather interior houses an upgraded entertainment system with audio and video capabilities. Considering the Aveo is a kind of current-day Geo Metro, this car, too, will be a unique ride for some budget-conscious tuner freak.
The MOST interesting thing is I was able to find a record of the sale of only the yellow 2004 car at the Barret-Jackson site:
It sold for 10 grand!!!
Considering it probably had next to no miles on it, that would have been a steal for someone to pick up. I wonder how much the 2003 green one went for. I couldn't find it on their site.

But why though? It will create extra drag and reduce your MPG by .43 and reduce your 0-60 MPH by 3.2 seconds
J/K, they look cool, but they might look odd without the rest of the wide body...

Re: Make your Aveo an Aveo Xtreme
I'd like to know what they did for a brake job.
-
Re: Make your Aveo an Aveo Xtreme
Well, according to this link from GM Inside News http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f13/ ... reme-8371/ it's SSBC high-performance brake system. Now I'm interested in getting one too. :D

Re: Make your Aveo an Aveo Xtreme
It's interesting comparing the 2003 and 2004 cars. Looks like the 2003 was an all-out show car that has a few mods that probably wouldn't be legal in most places.
For 2004 they toned it down and made it more production ready and street legal (probably why they called it "street edition"): stock ride height, body kit not quite as wide, retained stock front & rear turn signals, rear side marker light, stock fuel filler door.

No those extra scoops will add an extra 10hp, 5 per side!!
I’m not all that good with fiberglass, so I don’t trust the end product would look all that good. Working with paint, cloth and bolt on mobs I have no worries with.
I already have the Extreme Badges at home, thanks to a friend at GM. So I will be putting one on my ride since the sport badge I add last year is already pitted from one winter.

Re: Make your Aveo an Aveo Xtreme
i really like the rear spoiler they both have :D the black trim around the edge is neat
-
Re: Make your Aveo an Aveo Xtreme

Can we get the Xtreme's brakes? I looked on SSBC's website and all they have for 04 aveo is pads.

Re: Make your Aveo an Aveo Xtreme
I like the part on that movie bruno where hes casting babies for that photoshoot and he asks if its a problem for the baby to lose 10 lbs by next week, or if there ok with operating heavy machinery, and all the parents are just going along with it.
Lars, its looking good. I hope once I'm back into school this semester I can get some things done, because while I'm working this summer I have no time.
