Needing help install sub&/
I have installed one system before and it was in my old truck.
Does anyone have some pictures of how they installed their sub/amp.
I'm more of a visual learner, but if its not possible text works okay.
I just don't know how to hook up the amp to the battery, its a different style than what i'm used to.
Where to run the wires/hide them.
Much appreciated!
Re: Needing help install sub&/
I ran the power wire from the battery to a fuse, into the fender following the main ecu harness. Once inside run the wire under the carpet and place your amp under the driver seat. Run your RCA's down the middle (never with the power wire unless you like to listen to it whine). Ground under the seat. Run your speaker wires from there to wherever your subs are.
Use 12ga for the speakers if they are 10's or 12's
use 8ga for the amp
Re: Needing help install sub&/
I ran it through the same place, I mounted it in the hatch. My amp was on my box so I just kept everything back there.
I have it as low as it'll go, and it drums my little car to hell. haha

That's cool... makes it easier for when someone breaks into your car, the amp and subs are already there for the picking.

Thankfully, I live in a small town, where all the 'crooks' are friends or acquaintances of mine.
So i'd find out who broke in and kill them.
I have that fake alarm LED for now, and sometime soon i'm getting an alarm system installed.

do 4ga for amp, 8ga is just too thin and you would want room to upgrade.

Question, whats the easiest way to run the amp wire through the fender to the battery? Did you remove the plastic in the wheel well or use an old coat hanger with the wire attached to guide the wire? I just learned that best buy wired my damn amp to my deck somehow... i shouldn't have been lazy the first time.

thats the remote wire that turns on your amp when the deck turns on, they did it the right way
Re: Needing help install sub&/
fwiw, you should not run the wire through the fender. it should go through the firewall..
Re: Needing help install sub&/
both the remote and the power were leading to the radio. So why not the fender? The stock wires run through there? The other spot alot of people talk about is the grommit in the firewall on the passenger side, but i have no idea where to route the wire once I get it on the engine side.

I ran my power wire through the firewall grommet and then ran the wire along the engine side of the firewall (behind the motor) and tapped into the battery directly with a fuse block. I also used some conduit to protect the wire from the elements.
Re: Needing help install sub&/
any time i have seen stereo equipment run through the fender its a hack job, usually just run the wire under the seal in the door jamb and up the fender to the battery..
problem is when you close the door it will eventually cut the wire on the pinch weld. this could result in alot of things from a dead battery to a car fire..
if you had something else in mind, that might be fine. but i would put it through a grommet on the firewall.
Re: Needing help install sub&/
Who would have their wire get shut into the door??
Nothing on my car is a 'hack job'. Just needed to clear that up, I think you misunderstood what we mean by running through the fender. Look at the stock ECU, under the hood by the driver side strut. The harness goes from there, into the fender. On the inside of the car, look to the left of the feet pedals and you will see a grommet where the wires come through. When you see how it's run, you'll also see it's not a 'hack job'.
The door jamb??? really????
Re: Needing help install sub&/
I've seen that a lot re-doing people's systems. I always go through the grommet and THEN through the fender. You don't want your amp power wire hot from your engine compartment, plus it looks cleaner not seeing a big bright red wire running through your engine bay. Fortunently mine is 0 Guage blue Kicker wire so it looks kinda cool.

If my car wasn't at the body shop, I would snap some pictures of the wireing. If this thread is still alive when it's out, I'll do so.
