lol looks like you got gang wars in the fridge
nice job on shifter by the way
Oh ok so you made your own!!!
I see it looks like you only made the long side of the linkage longer. How did you know which side to make longer? Also, how did you know how much longer to make it. What thickness of metal did you use for your linkage. How are the pieces attached in the OEM linkage, like did you have to cut them out or?
Sorry for so many questions, but I might end up doing this this week.
Oh yeah, I just remembered your from pitts to, where at do you live again? Im close to the zoo.
i am in dormont, in the south hills.
i measured the shift points, and shortened 5 mm on the short side, and added 15 mm on the long side. but measure for yourself. if my math is right, its about 30% shorter throw.
I will be selling these on an exchange basis, for just enough to buy materials and time put in.
Although you can do it yourself, they will be painted better, but the modification, requires welding, replacing the arm, having a drill press, and cutting/shaping 1/8th inch steel.
I got all the jazz I need to do the manufacturing between my personal tools and the tools at my shop, so I should be good on that.
My last question is can you make it longer or do you start to run into problems then?
at that length my shifter only moves 3-3.5 inches between gears. any longer, i think you would be too short.
Also at this length the side to side arm is still usable unmodified. you would need to lengthen the arm (rod with black end clips in the pictures) you could also lengthen the arms on those to shorten the side to side. But then you need more geometry.
Ok this is the last question I think. Is your shifter assembly inside the car still stock length? I shortened mine so Im trying to get an idea of what the throw would be if yours is still the stock length.
Also thanks for all the info rabbit. I am probably going to give this a shot sometime this week. This write up should REALLY be useful.
yes, it is still stock length.
i fell left out, i wish i had a question for you rabbit, i really do
