heel-toe works well too.
old thread, but i realized after reading that article, that this is how i drive everyday.
The last time I needed to double clutch was with a '65 Chevy truck I had 30 years ago with a Saginaw 3 speed that had an unsynchronized first gear!
you should always double clutch, dont granny shift
I have that pic in my 4chan folder as well, a classic!
Trempus, FNF taught me how to race YO
i used to street race back in the early 90s.. before i had common sense, and respect of others lives.
Why bother double clutching when clutch boosting or rev matching achieves similar results? Matching for smoother changes, boosting for more available power after downshifting. Or am I missing something?
you missing a series of movies that automatically make you awesome.
I saw those movies. Does that mean I am cool and awesome? <- That would be negative Ghost Rider!
I played with this a bit after reading that guide. It does make a noticeable difference, but you really need to drill yourself to the point of second nature or it is useless and even a little dangerous. There is a lot more time between shifts when you have to push and let of the clutch more often. Does anyone know a trick to lessen the amount of travel in the clutch pedal? If my pedal only left the floor half the distance it does now, that would make take offs and shifting a lot faster. as I would have less area to look for that point where the clutch grips as well as the tires. Using my foot instead of my leg. so on and so forth.
if your pressing the pedal all the way in, yours still not doing it right. the point to is slip the clutch, not press it in. you just want it to slip as you go out of gear, and the slip when you go into gear.
Didn't think of that. Will start playing with it again.
it doesnt matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning, you better learn that too
I live my life a quarter mile at a time.
for those 18 seconds or more, im free
You know this ain't no 18+ second race Hunter.
I got all the time in the world....
I think that is how it goes....
OK, I started practicing this process and it's not easy. I have a couple of questions.
Going up the gears, I don't see a need to double clutch there. I should just speed shift it quickly as possible. Is this a correct assumption?
Going down the gears, I do see the need to double clutch there. This is the place to double clutch, right?
In combination with Left Foot Braking, the Aveo pedal setup is too cramped. The brake needs to move over a little bit to the left. Now I know why race car drivers use skinny shoes.
you don't double clutch shifting up as far as i know, you pull the car out of gear and then smack the clutch to put it in the next gear. I also don't know about braking during double clutching, i understand it is to downshift to pass, not downshift to slow down.
I have learned to double clutch back in the day, but it is not something i do.
Double clutching is useless in transmissions where synchronizers are used. Unless you drive very aggressively and don't want the jerk associated with the synchro's trying to mesh when downshifting at high rpm. It is very hard to learn and might actually put more wear on the transmission, clutch and motor mounts if you are not good at it (I.E. : while learning).
i honestly think it would wear the clutch even if you know how. but the technique does work well with unsprung race clutches..
i shift fast enough. and my great grandmother lost her license at 97 for driving 90 mph in a 25, and telling the cop she didnt have enough time left in this world to slow down. she lived to 105.
She didnt get her license back lol?
no, she didnt want to go to driving school.
Wow that has my grandma beat...
There's not enough time in the world to worry about double clutching.
I used to try to double clutch constantly before rallyX, in rallyX I realized, no amount of double clutching is going to get me from 2nd to first easily.
If you're driving "correctly," meaning downshifting at the last possible moment before the corner, it'll go in just fine without the double clutch. Just depress the clutch, blip the throttle, jam it in gear. All you should be worried about is the engine winding up if the revs are too low. If you're worried about wearing the clutch and the synchros so much, you probably just shouldn't drive the car that way.
I told this to my girlfriend and we both decided that she had the right idea. We both try live our lives in the moment and it has really worked well for us. I think we should make a T-Shirt with this quote:
Quote:
I don't have enough time left in the world to slow down for you.
well i live my life 1/4 miles at a time sooo
intervals of 17-18 seconds i guess :(
i live my life a 1/4 mile at a time too, because if i was forced to run that far i would probably have a heart attack and die.
for those 17-18 seconds, im free, are you free rabbit?
i thought this thread was a joke until people actually decided to read the article and try it...yikes....
you must lose a lot of races bro :D
testing........
