WANTED oem air filter box
I'm looking for someone who is willing to part with their oem air filter box on an Aveo. I bought my car recently on the cheap with some high milage ('04 with 92000mi) and I believe that the owner never did anything to the car because the screws to the air filter box are totally rusted shut to the point that I can't replace the filter without replacing the box.
On a side note, the AEM cold air intake on their web site says that the 50 state emissions is pending legality. Does this mean that if I have emissions testing in my county that it would fail? I would not want to spend $200 on a new intake and have my car fail emissions.
Re: WANTED oem air filter box
it would pass the emissions test, but might suck in water if you get caught in a storm, and kill your engine
Re: WANTED oem air filter box
NICE, I believe that I'll pass on that then.
Any feelings on the OEM replacement K&N filter? Are they worth the money or B.S.?

You may or may not fail since they are pending, but once they say it is certified you'll be golden

Not exactly, it means the certification is "pending." That means that is is not yet legal but they are working on it. And of course it might suck up water, any cold air intake has that risk

I have both a cold air intake and a OEM replacement (I switch out between the 2 depending on the time of year) Yes they are worth the money

They are worth the money, in that you won't need to buy another filter. Will they flow more air? I doubt it. OEM filters are not restrictive, especially on this car. The design of the intake, i.e. rubber tubes, resonator, intake size etc, are restrictive.
Re: WANTED oem air filter box
nonmouse replacement parts can be found on www.gmpartsdirect.com
i had the same problem with mine and ended up having to just replace the airbox.
Re: WANTED oem air filter box
Yes, thank you. I did find that site and saw the price, so I thought I'd ask around if anyone had theirs to get rid of if they changed to a cold air intake. I'm not looking for a freebie, just less expensive.
Re: WANTED oem air filter box
nonmouse i tried to open mine up and the anchors in the part where the filter sits just kept spinning around inside the plastic, then i ended up just destroying mine to get the filter out.
Re: WANTED oem air filter box
Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of happening, so I'm waiting until I've got the money to actually replace it just in case I destroy it. Do you know if the screws and mounts are different on the new box, since they seem to rust? Also, is it standard screws and nuts, can they just be replaced instead of changing out an entire box?
Re: WANTED oem air filter box
they never changed the mounting screws so i'll guess that they will do the same thing eventually. what i did i hopes to avoid this is was to spray my screws with wd-40 and then screwed them back in. the nuts that hold the screws down are just round brass anchors, nothing more.
