      bad gas sucks

i hate bad gas stations that give you the wrong gas...heres the story:

yesterday i went with my friend to jeff evans's place to get his rsx-s tuned since he has some bolt ons and k-pro...well we stopped at a gas station before we left jersey....asked from supreme which was labeled 93 and i checked to make sure he hit the right button and he did. we drove all the way out to penn and got like 7 knocks registered along the way but didnt know if they were fake knocks because hes got stiffened mounts and there were a couple hard bumps. so we get there and jeff sets up the dyno to start the tuning....first run he stops halfway because you can here the pinging and askes if were are running 93 and we said yea. he tries working with it but still pinging which he said never ever happens and that we got a bad tank of gas. kind of ruined the day, i felt bad for my friend because this tune cost him $600. jeff still tuned the best he could for what he had...he had to pull alot of timing and there was no more knocks and pinging at WOT...made 198 hp (it was a dynapack which attachs to the hubs), he said they usually make about 205-210 on his dyno with boltons. but considering the octance was right and he had a ton of timing pulled i consider that good (motor also has 140,000+ miles on it). he also took it out for a street tune for partial throttle and it was still ok. So the plan was to run the tank out and we would add some timing back to see if it was really the gas, but on our way home i was watching the knock count and when we were cruising at 75mph and around 2700-2800 rpms it was registering knocks in clusters which is bad...so we pulled over and had to put the old tune back on till this tank is gone. the new tune got erased but jeff was suppose to email us a copy so now we are just praying that he has it still. Props to Jeff Evans though, for being able to work though the bad gas problem and still pull out 198....the curves were so smooth too and it def pulled better....we couldnt tell at first but when we pulled over to put the old tune on you could tell how much better the new one was.

But to top off the day we hit traffic on the way home and my friend was late on his first day of work....all this because of bad gas

I still have never ran into this kind of stuff with my own vehicles, and I generally just grab whatever (mostly sheetz gas)...

Though in the 6mo I had a certain truck at my old job, I went through 2 oil filters and a fuel pump... that thing had over 240k miles on it though... The best was when the front passenger side wheel bearing broke at 55mph, nearly put me in a ditch.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far the wall moves after you hit it.

i remember about 5 years ago my sister got a load of bad gas in here 2001 malibu and it wiped out the fuel pump, then her husband did the same thing with his 98 caravan. its amazing how $100 for gas for both cars caused over $1000 in repair bills. they never went back to the cheapie gas station ever again.
