      Bought a 2011 jetta

Ok all so I faltered. I was going to wait for the 2012 Aveo, then I decided to look at the new Cruze, I test drove the new Mini Cooper, looked at a Ford Fusion, looked at a Subaru Legacy, looked at a new Chevy Malibu and Impala. Ok, so I got on a test driving kick. Not sure why, still love my Aveo and have no intentions of selling it or getting rid of it anytime soon. Back in the early days I was a huge VW junkie. Got away from them in the 80's because I had felt that build quality had suffered. Always loved V-dubs mostly classics. Had a few original Beetles, and a Bus or two. A friend told me about the commercials for the new 2011 Jetta S. Not very loaded but has power windows/door locks, a/c, keyless entry, cruise, and a single cd player with aux port for I-pod. Now that would be cool if I had an I-pod. Anyway, queried 5 different dealers to get a better price than the $15995 that was advertised nationally. Lowest I got so far was $15889. Ok so everyones hanging around the same number. My friend Anthony works for Emhart Ind. which is owned by Stanley Corp, and supplies fasteners to the auto industry has a "Friends and Family" plan at work that can get me a $1000 of lowest price I get on the car. So I did it. Bought the 2011 Jetta S.

ahhh I see where VW is tricking people, the old jetta came with the 2.5 as the base but now it comes with the 2.0, less than 100whp and numbers like the aveo's

the jetta se still has the 2.5 but starts at like 19k, like the old jetta

still looks good though, the price is too good to be true for the se trim though

We had the 2.5 Wolfsburg Edition, factory ground effects, alloys, leather...the works. the car was very fast and cornered well. I hated the vaccum door locks/acessories, always having leaks on the system. It was a gas HOG too. It really felt like a trac car, very stiff and precise.

those are nice, the 2.5 is a very nice engine when it is running right, but the 2.0 is a wash to me, hence they sell at 16k starting

i wouldnt mind an early 2000's wolfsburg, but seems like a lot of things go wrong

They are great cars, but I think in general VW are high maintenance, I've had a few, always the same, plus the parts are hard to find and really expensive, a set of ignition wires for the Jetta was over $200! I also had a few Subarus, great cars! Almost no maintenance, good power and the awd is a joy to drive fast. I heard the parts are also very expensive but I never needed to change any on mine.

newer vws dont have ignition wires, and parts prices are determined by knowing where to shop and for what.

hunter dont get me started on the 2.5, 4 cylinder > 5 cylinder even if it is "half a lamborghini engine"
