      You can not commit crimes in a Aveo. Its just not fast enough.

      Horsepower is a bit on the lower side, making all that torque unavailable.... So it would bring great fuel economy, but I don't know if the american market is ready for such a reduction in horsepower.
      I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

      The ford festiva and aspire did reasonably well at 64hp, along with the metro. Though there's a big difference in weight between 1.3l 4cyl (festiva/aspire) and the 1.3l/1.0l engines offered in the metro... vs. a 1.3l or larger diesel engine. Diesel engines are generally all cast iron due to the much higher compression ratio (compression based ignition, no spark plugs)

      One thing to note though: diesel engines will keep accepting boost as long as you keep supplying fuel. With the 1.9l TDI offered by volkswagen you can get enough power to burn out the clutch with just a software tune. Beyond that it's just bigger turbo, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump. No need to mess with the rods or pistons... unless you want to hit some insane PSI.

      As far as the "making the torque unavailable" comment... Torque means horsepower, not the other way around.

      HP=(Torque*RPM)/5252
      Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far the wall moves after you hit it.

      As good of an idea it is, it wont catch on in America. When I lived in England, every other car was a diesel. It was great for fuel economy and it was also cheaper over there than normal gas. Over here tho, people still have the stereotype of diesels being loud, smoky, and very poluttant. Just look at how many cars come with a diesel option. VW and Mercades are the only ones that come to mind.

      yeah but that lower horsepower rating means the torque starts to suck pretty bad quick. No torque, no go.

      I guarantee that the 69BHP is high in the RPM range. It could produce 100lb-ft from 2000rpm-3500rpm and still have a 69BHP peak.

      Remember, diesels have a very linear low end, and drop off quickly at high rpm. You just have to drive it differently.

      The 1.9L TDI from the mk4 volkswagens had a peak hp of 90, but produced a peak torque of 155lb-ft.
