this was aquired today (6/21/08) while taking a police recommended detour around a parade in town today. and down a street with an extreme dip in the road. i am more than pissed!!
1st because my under body looks ****ed up
2nd because my flex pipe is broke and when i drive, my car sounds like im flushing a toilete
3rd because 1 and 2 piss me off so much!
i need help finding new pieces because im pretty sure my warranty doesnt cover ****ed up directions. can anybody help??
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
that metal piece is a cover near the o2 sensor I believe so it shouldnt matter, and that "flex-pipe" shouldnt matter much either, I highly doubt the city will pay for anything, especially if the car is lowered or if you were speeding. I'd say since you have the megan muffler and just got your exhaust done, just go all the way, headers back and make sure to put a resonator in
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
GREAT excuse to get the exhaust done now...does suck tho..
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
The Flex pip is WAY over priced, your best bet.. as far as on a budget goes, is to have that section replaced with a piece of pipe...
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
its not the metal O2 cover that is damaged. the pipe itself is dented inward, but im not sure if that is so bad. and as for the flex pipe if i just get another pipe isnt that bad :?: cuz i thought that those were necesarry so the exhaust pipes dont twist and whatnot. maybe im confused :|

Try to find a car with an OEM flex pipe the size you need (I used one from a Saturn). A flex pipe isnt something that is a "must have" but rather its something that is "better to have" so that the exhaust doesnt move and jerk with the engine

Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
ive hit some pretty pretty big dips with lowering springs and ive never scrapped my exhaust, only the plastic/ metal under the bumper that protect the radiator...how fast were u going
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
id talk to the city anyways, **** em! what kind of dip was it? you should go back and take pics of it.
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
Did you just get a Cat Back Done? now you can get headers and finish the pipes........
I can give you the number for a Good Lawyer in Encino, CA or i can give you the Number of a Drunk Lawyer that just lost his Bar for his 4th D.U.I. Just Kidding about the Drunk Lawyer Not Kidding about him losing his BAR for a 4th D.U.I.

Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
i was doing 40. it was an alley detour and i had no traffic in front of me. so its not only the city's fault; i am half at blame. im just happy i didnt do any suspension mods yet.
i scraped the plastic, but its not too bad, just some minor cosmetics. and i never really look under my bumper for prettyness.
i dont have pics of the street its too dark at the moment. but i will search for it if possible.
and no i didnt get the cat back. it was just a simple pipe replacement this far. the cat back is to get done in the near future.

Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
you can get a flex pipe off ebay pretty cheap... you definately need it otherwise expect broken exhaust mounts or a fully broken exhaust.
If you want to replace that section with OEM then www.car-part.com
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
You should be able to get a universal flex pipe we sell them at my work and depending on the size they are not too expensive
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
i got hooked up with a flex pipe for cheapy :P
but as for the O2 sensor pipe...thats a different financial story. $160
i sucked it up and ordered it from GM since it is guaraneed to fit and since there are no aftermarket parts for my pretty.
im starting to hate cars
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
oh and i forgot to ask how much the install would be. the part comes in in about 1-3 days so i will find out how much when i go get it. but im thinking it would be cheap if i do it myself.

Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
It could have been worst......... it could have been your oil pan with a big gaping hole in it! think if you would have hit the oil pan and punched a hole in it........ then kept driving till you ran out of oil and then blew the motor. I'd rather the flex pipe then an oil pan. i bring this up cuz i was watching Ice Road Truckers and one dude did that to his rig. but his oil pan was made out of Fiber Glass. i drove truck and this was the first time i heard about anyone having an oil pan made from fiber glass. sorry to get off the subject but ya i would much rather a flex pipe to replace then an oil pan.
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
i most deff agree with you, and i DID hit my oil pan but it was just a scuff mark compared the the pics up top. so i am extremely happy that i have to replace the flex pipe and O2 pipe rather than the oil pan.

Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
off topic: whats up with part labeled as 22 on that drawing? where does that 5 hole gasket like thing go?
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
Mike, on gm parts direct of that illustration number 22 is listed as a "piston ring set"
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
great $72 isnt so much. if my pan seems to be a prob after all i know where to go to get it for a great price rather than my GM dealer. thanks fred.
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
    WTF!!! i just found out i could have saved $70 if i bought my O2 pipe from gmpartsdirect!
that means i oculd have gotten the pipe and a new pan for the same price i paid for just the pipe at the dealer. **** ME! :x
-
Re: destroyed...sorta.. help?
