I'd like to say...

That I, the newb, have made my first performance mod to Kimberly (my veo).
Not 15 min ago, I finished Installing my brand new Short Intake. I am freaking out, because along
with it being my first mod on Kim, it is my first mod EVER! So yay for me!!!

I drove it around the block and oooohhh it sounded sexy :shock: , loud :P , and i noticed an extreme
improvement in my lower RPMs :twisted: . So once again I am happy and I want tips on what to do next.
I am already waiting for my Megan M-N1 exhaust, so telling me to get a muffler is no neccesary.

Thanks for any words of wisdom. oh, and i will be posting a pic of her soon.

congrats! you already know about the muffler being next, but i'd take it one step further and go for the whole catback exhaust

I heard (on aveo, kalos, swift forum) that getting a cat would take away hp/torque. Is that for real?!

I heard that if things aren't set up a certain way ,that a Cat back exhaust could damage your hp gains and actually make you loose hp too. But that was from my brother, who drives a honda civic and LOVES giving me a hard time. :)

i read on here if u go bigger then 2 inch piping from the cat back the back pressure will be to low and u'll loose power instead of gaining it. i dont think there is a big difference if u keep the stock cat on or if u put a high flow on further back, i could be wrong but ive heard that putting a high flow cat on there really isnt that much of a difference in flow.

oh hes one of those honda guys...you need to make sure the piping is the optimum size for what your doing....i cant see a 2.25" exhaust hurting hp gains on an aveo

2.5 outlet? and how much would a high flow be??

its been so long since I've argued about exhausts that I forget what size I was argueing for but I am pretty sure you wouldnt want anything over 2.25" with the aveo....stock size pipe is 1.75" and 2.5" would be too big unless you were running a turbo or supercharger

..actually i take that back, I'm pretty sure it was 2" that was a good size for the normally modded aveo. I believe it was brian that went from a 2.25" exhaust to a 2" exhaust and felt like he had gained more, which could be true but someone also mentioned the horrible bends that the stock system has also really effects the exhaust flow

I have a 2'' cat-back exhaust, no loss here, infact i think i gained a bit of mid range power over just having a muffler

2'' was the winner. I got 2" and its all good, of course once my turbo is on, I will have to up a size. :twisted:

stop right there. backpressure is your mortal enemy. replace backpressure by exhaust gases velocity and you're right. One day I'll get pissed and post the difference. for now, google for the difference. I'm not trying to be an ass, it's a common mistake I hear almost everyday.

all right so me and my transitive subject posts say for me to get a 2" catback. and i love it. you guys are really helping me out. but a quick favor to ask...can any o fyou post a pic of yours? i really want to see how truly sexy my ride will be :mrgreen:

Oh and horrible stock bends? Have you looked under the car? The stock bends while not mandrel are actually quite good

i thought i saw a post where someone said that the bend angles towards the back are bad

Any bend that is more than 45 degrees ish will be bad, no matter what the bend type (crushed, mandrel...) We have two 90s then followed by a 30 in the back, plus the stock choker (muffler). BUT, the stock piping is still pretty good. It's actually the stock muffler and cat that are the bad on our cars.

you can always go with my version of the hi-flo cat. unbolt flexpipe from cat, unbolt manifold from block. lift out of engine bay. unbolt cat from manifold. find a hammer and screwdriver thats longer than the cat. place screwdriver in cat and smash the ceramic insides of the cat out. clean up mess on the floor. clean up manifold a bit. bolt everything back together in reverse order.

*note: exhaust will have metallic ringing note.

**note: exhaust will smell rich

***note: only do if your a ghetto bastard like me and like to mess with ****

****note: CEL may come on, do not worry as its just the second O2(not the importan O2 sensor) reading below threshhold
