      Saturn Astra XR

Anyone seen one? or better yet driven one? Theres one on display at our local mall and I have to say it is rather sexy. Sexy enough to consider getting one. Of course after I pay off the aveo in May and save up a few car payments. The interior is amazing compared to the aveo i got now (04). If I was to get one it would have to be the 2 door hatch and not 4. The 4 door looks kinda goofy. Whats your thought on the Astra?

yea i went there to grab some specs...im creating a spreadsheet comparing the astra xr, aveo, and other competitors. Pictures of the Astra XR just do not do it justice, like it looks bigger in pictures than it really is. The one in the mall was amazing, nice, low, and wider. I've really liked the Astra's style since I knew about the 240hp VXR overseas. The interior is definately a step up from my aveo. It has a 140 hp 1.8L (where as the Nissan Versa 1.8 puts out 122) and gets 24/32 mpg (aveo gets 24/34). So I could probably get the same mpg if I wanted with the right driving. What bothers me is: one, the weight of 2800lbs; two, at 80mph the rpms are at 4k because of the short gear 5 spd manual. But there are plenty of aftermarket options with this car plus its a little sportier and refined. I will gain power yet I wont lose mpg. Seems like a win, win situation. Of course the 3-dr XR is more than the 5dr at 18500ish, which I don't understand because looking at it from materials point your actually using less(ie no rear door parts). I am just afraid to move on from the aveo since it has been really good to me. No problems (knock on wood) since I got it and it gets great gas mileage, but realistically I would have to trade the aveo in if i wanted the astra.

Hopefully they will have plenty of overstock next year and I could get one cheaper well thats if our economy doesn't fold But either way I am really looking into this car and maybe test drive one. Let me know if you guys here anything good or bad.

OK, I checked it out quickly, and a few things I didn't like are the coupe XR you are talking about starts at over 18K sticker with manual, then 1.3K for auto, add 18" rims and stereo upgrade and the thing is outta site, like 22K. I also hate the fact that Saturn does not haggle on price, it is just un-american. so I am sure it is a nice car, but I think there is a lot of competition at that price level. Now this is what makes me wet.

honestly tho, the astra is a nice car, but not my cup of tea.
You can not commit crimes in a Aveo. Its just not fast enough.

      Re: Saturn Astra XR

yea part of the problem with the price is that its made overseas and you know how good the US dollar is ...and Ive been reading quite a few articles that they aren't selling either so who knows what the situation will be when I find the right time to pick one up. I'll try to get one when they are getting rid of over stock....I wouldn't be getting any options tho...the 18's are ugly and I want a manual...hell if i was to get one I'd look first for a nice 16" wheel combo.

But I have a good feeling that they might remodel it or not sell it because of the price or lack of sales. And its not that I am looking for a new car but if I can get an Astra I will otherwise its the aveo all the way.

My Mom has one with the 17's on it, I love it and it's cheaper per month than my car and hers is loaded!, handles very well and the overall fit and finnish of the car is top knotch, very much like other euro. exported cars.
      I'd buy one.
      06' Aveo
      07' Liberty
1973 VW Bug. Full resto. summer toy.
