Some know, some dont

Had the surgery on my lower back. Hurts like hell and I now have partial paralysis in my left foot. Hopefully it goes away with time. I am getting progressively stronger but still have a long road of recovery ahead of me. May get out of hospital today, may not. Been here since June 7th. The surgery scared the hell out of me. Had breathing tube in me, woke up with a catheter, had that pulled the day after. It was nice/convenient, but I dont want a tube in my wiener any longer than needed. It was so hard to take a leak after, bladder got lazy. Anyway, had a 2 level fusion, S1 vert. to my L5, and my L5 to my L4 vert. I have pics of the incision if anyone wants to see it. 17 staples hold everything together. I am still leaking in spots and they have to change the bedding in the morns due to the bodily fluids that ooze out during the night/day. :kermit:

Im out, at home. Partially paralyzed left leg right now, but am slowly getting off the walker. Yeh, I cant walk independently yet, so embarrassing. Sex is still out of the question. Tomorrow I am getting stronger narcotics and I got a stronger muscle relaxant today. It makes me sleepy as hell.

The pain is very intense right now. I cant express that enough. Its taking a combo of narcotics and alcohol to make everything numb. I dont reccommend anyone doing this but at the same time, my narcotics dont have acetaminophen in them so I am not as worried about liver damage.

List of drugs:
Neurontin
Dexamethasane
Baclofen
Nucynta - 75mg and 100mg
Robaxin
MS Contin 30 mg

This sucks so much guys. Although, being on the Dilaudid for a day and a half at the hospital was nice! (Followed by high doses of morphne every 10 minutes, all through the IV) :D

I am bruised, beaten, and leaking puss and blood everywhere, but I am slowly getting stronger, will be starting phys rehab soon, then hopefully taper downs of the medications.

I must say I miss the doses of Valium at the hospital. Stuff made me just melt into the hospital bed for a few hours not caring about sh%t.

Also, let me make this clear, never ever take wiping your butt for granted. Its such a laborious chore. Also taking a leak, dont take that for granted. And enjoy being able to wash your own legs in the shower.

The pictures on facebook are scary enough :o

Hopefully you finally get better, it will be worth it.

an update:
back in hospital. Possible bad infection. Joints locking up in lower body. Was getting better today but no word on what's really wrong. Incision is refusing to close. It keeps draining alot. Some clear, some blood. May have to go into OR tomorrow to reopen incision and irrigate it. Scared. Will update later.

side effects of working around the sex thing?

update: going in for surgery tomorrow morning at 7 30 where they will reopen the incision, spread everything open down to the bone, take a basic power washer and clean the crap out of it and sow me back up. Also diagnosed with a staph infection so will be doing heavy antibiotics and will be sent home with a pick line. Google it. I'm typing from my phone, sorry!

So, I had a 3rd surgery!

This time it was to repair a tear in my dura so I would stop leaking spinal fluid. It was a success and now I can sit up without getting major headaches and throwing up. It was a 4mm tear that was sewn up and glued shut. Doctor said it probably occurred due to the fact that I was taking steroids for the inflammation, but steroids make everything weaker. I dunno tho, I thinks he futzed something up and just doesnt want to admit it seeing as the symptoms occurred right after the second surgery. The surgery occurred 3 days ago. I have just been in sooooooo much pain and out of it that it didnt occur to me to post here.

Anyway, I hope I am done with these surgeries, for real. Its getting old. Been in the hospital 11 days and counting. I wanna go home.

Still in the hospital. I have a fluid build up in my epidural space and the doctors are hoping my body will reabsorb it, but if it dont, I could be up for a 4th surgical procedure. I say procedure because there a couple different ways to get it out depending on severity. I am finally off the pain pump today YAY!!! Still have IV injections of dilaudid on my orders tho if I need it. I am hoping within 3-5 days I can go home.

I got home yesterday. The neuro team felt confident Id be ok. Will be able to slightly enjoy the holiday. Yay for narcotics, muscle relaxers, and my fave (technically a muscle relaxer) diazepam, or aka, valium.

Wow dude, that sucks. Had a back surgery myself recently so I know it hurts a lot after. I hope you recover fast and that the drug cocktails are effective :)

The drug cocktails make me sleepy as hell. 3x being opened up is taking alot longer to recover from than I thought it would. I thought Id be playing football by now :P

Ughh, I got thrush under my tongue, it hurts like hell to eat or talk :(

Had it for four days, might have it for 2-4 more weeks, the medicine is expensive as hell for what it is.

I am feeling a very VERY small portion of your pain though :D

I had that in the hospital. They gave me nystatin for it. Get that **** treated. I got it early enuf where it didn't become a bother but it took about a week and a half to clear up. Yours might take longer. Seriously, spend the $ if you got it and get it cleared up. I had it in the back of my throat.

holy #$@#$#%@# $@%@$# I could not imagine that anywhere on my throat, they gave me 300ml of nystatin. Looks like it is clearing up a bit, only on my 2nd dose of nystatin, supposed to use 6ml 4 times a day for 2 weeks so I should be good, I hope. But my god, I had less pain with my sugrey on my toe, I want to eat in peace!

I caught it while it wasn't painful and just a few specs in the back of my throat. I had about a dozen spots at it's worst. I hated the nystatin "rinses" after a while. The taste eventually made me start refusing the treatment. But that was after a doc cleared me on it. The thrush still felt weird tho.

Yeah, I have area about an inch and a half in diameter under my tongue, it is so painful. The nystatin does not really bother me too much, but I wouldn't doubt losing interest in after a while :D It may not be so bad in other areas I guess, but under the tounge is a bitch. I will get a picture to see what you think :)
