Barely. Find another bone stock SUV that would fare as well. Before stating trucks like the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS and the Ford F150 SVT Lightning, Let me remind you that the GMC Typhoon was a low 13 second car down the 1/4 stock while the other 2 were high 13's, low 14's stock.
Video FYI: Motorweek acceleration times and 1/4 mile times are always slower than what the car is actually capable of. They don't have very good drivers....

i believe the cyclone was faster than the typhoon? but you are right. loved them both, fun to drive as well.

i believe the silverado ss? 454 truck and the original lighting were both from the early 90s as well.

i also like that drag race video. i was honestly surprised by the m3 keeping up in a straight line, not by specs but platform (solid rear axle versus irs, i think both have lsd, the weight is close but the mustang is bigger in comparison)..

i like the mustang, owned built, building them.. i like the m3, ive driven them.. the m3 is more solid, where the mustang can power through the its weak spots, suspension etc would improve it.

but let me put it this way, performance they compare. the mustang does not compete the the m3 in build quality and gadgets, etc.
to get the interior etc out of the m3 in an american car, you need to buy a car that wont compete with the performance. The cts-v comes close, but its new. as everyone has started to realize you need to take on the bmw to build a "luxury" sports car. Moe cars will be refined to compete.

i myself would by a mustang before an m3. But if i was spending that kind of money, i would get an rs5.

The Syclone was slightly faster than the Typhoon due to it's lower weight.
The Silverado SS was from the 2000's and was essentially a pick up Tralblazer SS. The one I believ you're referring to never originally carried the Silverado badge, instead just being called the 454 SS. It weighed more than the Sy/Ty twins, produced less HP (230 vs 280 for the Sy/Ty) and produced more torque, but not by a substantial margin (.385 ft-lbs for the 454 SS, 360 ft-lbs for the Sy/Ty twins). This combined with the fact that the 454SS was cheaper than the Sy/Ty twins, I'd wager they were faster as well.

I agree the typhoon is an awesome SUV. and the cyclone is faster only becuase of the weight difference cuz mechanically they were pretty much the same thing

i was thinking of the 91 454 ss, i know it had over 400 ft lbs of torque.. and a final drive gear over 4:1.. making it an great 1/4 truck, but slower on the highway..

the lightening was in 1994? or so.. which wasnt special, well outstanding, in any way.

i'd still take the s10 body..

Speaking of which, the Syclone is STILL the fastest ever production truck.
