I never said Honda's weren't reliable. Go ahead and look through my comments. My hatred of Honda stems from my love of engineering and my hatred of Vtec. Growing up, All I ever heard from anyone my age was how awesome Vtec was. So I researched it and wasn't impressed. HP over torque? I'll take torque please. The engines rev too high for the powerband to be of any use, the engines are notoriously harsh, lots of noise, lots of vibration, little movement. Everyone always says Horsepower is what makes a car go fast. No it isn't. People are morons.
The dictionary definition of Horsepower is how much work an engine can do as compared with how much a horse can do. Torque by definition is the force that spins the wheel.
Now to illustrate my point.
2006 Honda Civic Si. 2.0L K20 VTec I4. 197 HP, 139 ft-lbs
2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged. 2.0L ecotec I4. 205 HP, 200 ft-lbs of torque.
I don't wanna hear "Forced induction vs N/A" cuz at the end of the day, it makes no difference. Honda has no excuse as to why the Cobalt is faster by almost a full second down the 1/4 mile. Yes, the Cobalt will undoubtedly have electrical problems out the ass later on in life. The engine however is virtually bulletproof as is the Honda engine. But no matter how you slice it, the Cobalt isn't faster due to a small HP advantage, but rather a large torque advantage.
And THAT'S why my vehemence towards Honda. Everyone always says it's the best thing ever. No it isn't. It's crap that got shoved into a reliable package.
VTec: All of the lag, none of the boost. It's like waiting for really bad sex.
