fortunately, the timing belt was just changed. I've made a few posts so far, some about that.
how do you know when to change the timing belts on these cars anyway? it seems like a poor design by chevy for it to cause so much damage if one breaks.
no guarantees with timing chains either but they seem a better design choice. I know they would cause damage when they go, but, I thought the timing belt was supposed to be a "break and fix" alternative vs chains.

Well, many cars have interference engines and timing belts. So, if the belt breaks the engine is damaged. The Aveo just seems to have a short change interval vs other makes. I'd just make sure to do it before 60k and you're good. Make sure to replace the belt and tensioner because we've had a few of those fail too.
